It still makes the noise which has always been there but is more louder, but only in 1st through 3rd gear and between 2 and 4000 RPM's! After that it quiets down!

Haha true! Makes me wonder how that got in there in the first place.
Worries me about a cam swap. :(

Chip, you wouldn't even hear any noise if it weren't for the headers!

Yeah well my plan is cam, LTs, cutouts, and tune. So you've still got me scared!

This is just a minor little setback! It'll get figured out! If I have to I'll go to vengeance Friday since I got the day off for the Commerce meet!

Wiggle is normal as everyone has already stated. This spring looks like the kind of springs you sometimes see used around gaskets, not like an o-ring type seal but similar. Do the end look broken, like at one time they might have been connected to each other?

That "spring" is only 1.5" long? Your camera has mega zoom, it looks like a snake of split loom to me!
I haven't been inside the valve cover of my 6.2, but on gen III motors at least there's nothing like that that you would normally find inside the valve cover, therefore, its probably something that fell in when they were working. side to side wiggle is normal. Our rockers bolt in the center so they're probably just wiggling on that point, not the carrier itself. There is an issue at least on older GM rockers where the needle bearings in the rockers will come out and you'll find them in the oil when draining, but this usually only happens in very high mileage high wear cars and it can make the valve train chatter rattle and not perform properly. (not to mention.. having a little needle bearnig floating around potentially clogging oil pathways is not a good thing..) I woudln't worry. Take it to the shop, ask them if they've been looking for it. I've also heard on here that adding LTs makes valvetrain noise more noticable.. AND LSx motors are NOTORIOUSLY noisy motors, especially aluminum versions like ours. this is my 3rd lsx based coupe, and my 7th vehicle to have a gen III/IV engine in general (I'm including 5.3s 6.0s in that number.. not the first tho..) There's a few things about these motors that we have to just live with unfortunately. They're amazing motors, but sometimes the noises they make can give you a complex. I know my car when its cold the rockers seem to "squeak" like something moving in a rubber gasket. Chris says I'm just being paranoid. I haven't worried about it much. If it's a problem it'll show itself eventually. |
