Kooks 1 7/8 and Magnaflow 2.5'' street catback

I made a short clip of my setup. I got Kook 1 7/8 headers with cats and a Magnaflow 2.5'' street catback put on Thursday.
It sounds great (don't really go by the video). I made the video with a 10 year old Sony digital camera and the quality is terrible.

The setup is real quiet for a car with Long tubes. That's what I wanted. I got the Magnaflow street catback to keep the noise level in check. It has a real nice low rumble at idle. It really doesn't open up until about 2500 - 3000 rpms. At WOT is sounds unreal (but still not overly loud or obnoxious). Overall its a tame setup for a car with longtubes.

I have an L99 so there is the AFM issue. I do get that annoying AFM sounds when its engaged. I'm getting my car re-tuned on Wedneday to turn off the AFM.
At cruise speeds its very quiet (2000 rpms at 65mph or so) and there is no drone. If you use the tap shifts and put the car in 6th gear, its real quiet with absolutely no drone at 60mph (my L99 has no AFM while using the tap shifts).

In the clip I only revved to 2000 rpms followed by 2500 rpms. I had neighbors outside and I didn't want to freak them out. But you get the general idea. Its a pretty tame setup. So for anyone wanting long tubes and you want to keep the noise level down (while still sounding bad axx), this is a great setup for you.

I've been waiting on this sence you was talking about it last week.
It really sounds great! It's always hard to tell in a clip, but how much louder
is it over stock at idle?

Compared to stock (which was whisper quiet in my L99) its quite a bit louder. Its nice and aggressive (definately doesn't sound stock) when you first start it, but its still really tame compared to other setups with longtubes. The installer at the performance shop was amazed by how quiet it was. Most the cars they install 1 7/8 headers on end up being very loud. The Magnaflow street catback does a great job at keeping the noise level down.

I can't be more pleased. I really wanted longtubes, but I didn't want my neighbors pissed off at me when I start my car up in the morning.

And its got a nice low muscle car type sound. Its not raspy at all. It sounds really good.

Ok cool.....I know you just got it but have you had any codes yet? I'm
probably going to go ahead and get LT's, but no tune rite now. I think
one member(Tag) has LT's,no tune,and his is not throwing codes anymore.

I went one day with no codes. But yesterday, on my way to work I got an emissions code. I could unhook my battery and get rid of it, but I'm getting my car re-tuned on Wednesday (adjust A/F for new mods, and delete AFM).

As mentioned (Tag), if you clear the code, there's a decent chance (50/50) that the code will not come back. You can keep clearing the code and hopefully the computer will adjust to your new setup. But there's also a decent chance, it will continue to throw an emissions code.

You will absolutely love the AFM delete. Worth the price of a tune all by itself.. But since this is a touch up tune if you go to the same guy I`m sure it will be very little compared to the first tune. The car will be beast!

My stock and stock tuned numbers were not all that impressive. But they are right on my money for their dyno (+/- a couple rwhp of the other L99s they've dynoed)
319 rwhp, 313 lb ft. (stock)
330 rwhp, 338 lb ft (stock with tune).

Jannetty Racing made 335 rwhp, 345 lb ft. (Bone stock with their L99). That's more than my tuned L99. But not all dyno's are created equal (even when using correction factors). So I'm sure my numbers will be a lot lower than some of the other L99's with Longtubes.

But it will be interesting to see how much HP and Torque I'm making over my stock baseline.
But to me, how my car runs at the track will be the true test of its performance.

The 2.5" system will probably be a little cheaper but I would recommend the 3" Magnaflow system. Has a nice deep rumble to it.

The Magnaflow Street will probably the quietest catback on the market. Without long tube headers, its ridiculously quiet. But with long tubes it sounds just right for someone not wanting an overly aggressive setup. It still sounds nice a aggressive at WOT, but at lower rpms and cruise is very quiet.

You can also go catless if you decide you want to increase the noise level a bit. But even going catless its not too loud.

I have the 3in mbrp exhaust with 17/8 kooks & cats right now. Its pretty loud and sounds mean, but I might have to prepare the car better for a baby soon, so im looking for something pretty quiet inside the cabin. Do you get alot of backflow popping or drone with the headers/magnaflow street setup? Thanks
