DR question
I have 265/40/18 MT ET DR on the 18X9.5 vett wheels current best 60' is 1.991. Im thinking of going to a 305/40/18 this should help me hook a little better or am i thinking wrong here.
Any input appreciated.

The 265 should hook. Try 17 psi. I was able to cut 1.4 60's with a 296 dr and 1.60's on a 275 dr. The tire change won't help.

i mean, are you still having traction issues? if your hooking i dont see why increasing the with would help any.

Cant seem to get them to outright hook still getting tire spin ranging from 2500 to 4000 rpm, if I launch any lower than that i bog at the launch. Just thinking with a wider contact surface might hook a little better. Correct me if Im wrong pretty new to the strip.

im new to the whole thing as well. but that logic makes sense to me. more rubber = more traction. i mean are u getting good heat on the ones you have before you launch it? |

I hooked a 10" wide drag radial with 650 rwhp. It's not the tire. What psi are you running? Burnout procedure?

I was running 18 psi, run through water brake and heat up tire for about 5 - 7 secs maybe a little longer enough to get the tires to through some smoke then stage and launch.

Sounds pretty correct. Did you try anything different. To long of a smokey burnout will make the tire very greasy and then not hook. The tire will work. You just need to play with the burnouts and see what your car likes. Maybe drop a psi or 2. Check your tire psi when you get back from the pass instantly. If its getting high then you need to start lower to compensate. That's why it's called test and tune!!

Didnt do anything different on any pass my best bet would just get more time at the track and work on the launch and try and find the ideal rpm to launch at. About to put 4.11s in this coming week so will have to start over with the launch procedures to get them down. I guess the best thing to do is get seat time in to get it down.
Thanks for the input much appreciated.

No problem. 4.11's you'll def need to change it up. And remember, if the track prep isn't good or if you are following street tire cars you could run a dragster slick and still spin. It's different every time out. Weather factors in too. |

yeah the track was somewhat preped few street tires on as well but the pit area is dirt so that could be part of the problem. Plus its hot here in New Mexico 95 -100 and elevations 4200ft probably hurts a little.

The heat = greasy Street tires = ripped up rubbered surface Elevation = less power (shouldn't spin tires) Plus any bonehead driving through the water with street tires will carry the water a ways down the track which will make you spin. |
