4.5 qts of oil low with no leaks

I have a 2011 2LT RS (V6) that was 4.5 qts of oil low and no apparent leaks that the dealership could find. Took it to the dealership for noise from engine. They said it was low on oil. They filled it up (4.5 qts) and sent me on my way. When checking the dipstick, it appeared to be a qt low they said and I agree because that's what I saw. They kept filling it up. Where did it all go? A week later I am back at the shop with god awful engine noise. 62k miles and the dealership wants to drop the oil pan to look for metal and sludge. They say its an 11 hour job. Is it really 11 hours to drop the oil pan?

Can't answer about your oil consumption problem without speculating, but the labor hours for R&R the oil pan is 10.8 hours, so they're correct.

Dealer should have drained all of the oil in the first place before just topping up 4.5 quarts. At least then you could have known how much came out. Something seems off on your dipstick readings.

Yep. Must have been unlevel ground that we both checked the oil on! That's at least what was said to me!

Sadly, those engines have an oil eating issue. Just suprised it reared its ugly head this late. Let the dealer do their thing. Prob end up with a rebuilt engine.

My car uses 1qt. every 1500 miles. It's been said time and time again, these engines use oil. Check Your Oil at least once a month. I have a catch can that catches a few onces a week, it's not all oil, it's oil and water mixed. there is a thread on here, that tells a story of a guy running out of oil and replaced the engine. Remember, Oil Pressure is not Oil Level.

Mine uses very little between changes and I never have to add, so all LLT engines
were not built the same, nor in the same location.

I honestly don't think that's it, I think it has to do with how the car was broken in. I broke mine in hard right off the lot (when I had my 2011 LLT) and I never lost any oil and my engine was strong.
