Polished 20s clear coat spider webbing.

Hey all, my 2011 Rs's wheels look horrible. It looks like they have a clear coat issue. There are some cracks and webbing and what look like scratches but they aren't scratched. My 2012 SS doesn't have this problem. Is it covered by the warranty ? Does anyone have a TSB? Or had an issue with their wheels. Thanks. 2011 Rs RJT with 19k

Warranty.

Its called filiform corrosion. It happens between the alum and clearcoat. Repair is difficult, so the dealer should replace them.

My Dodge Ram has stock polished/clear coated wheels that did that. I put paint stripper to remove the clear and then polished them with aluminum polish. Now they look almost chrome and much better.

That's exactly what I did on my ws6 wheels for my formula.

It might be Filform, but can also be caused by using the wrong type of wheel cleaner spray.

Usually takes many years for the prior....might be a hard sell for your dealer for warranty.

Always use just plain car wash soap on clear coated wheels,I have a feeling the OP used something caustic.

I bought the car with 9k on it. I will take it to the dealer on Monday to see what they say. Thanks for the input. I only use car wash soap.

You may want to check with your dealership to see if this is something covered under warranty or not. They will have to diagnose it to be a defect in materials or workmanship.
