Angry Body Shop Failure

Back in April my car was backed into by a certain someone, but the cops couldn't pin it on her because I never actually "seen" her do it (even though I seen her van parked 10 feet away and it had paint residue on her hitch). I went through Geico to get my claim done and went through a local body shop for the work. The shop was supposedly a good place to take it.

So the shop replaces the door shell and front fender and sands the whole driver's side down and repaints it. I picked it up on a rainy day so I couldn't really see the paint defects in it.

Now in the sun I see over 150-200 paint specks (possibly dust/dirt underneath), they dented the door sill with their boots (now fixed), left runs in the paint (now fixed from them buffing it but DIDNT BUFF IT ALL, but they left the paint swirls looking like my old man's '04 Silverado), and lastly they didn't clearcoat the inside of the front fender by the hood or the inside of the rear quarterpanel by the rear window (also left a clearly visible blend line on the inside of the quarterpanel between the door and quarterpanel). When I seen all these defects, I brought it to him again and he had the car for 4 days last week (2 weeks to repaint it originally). (Oh and he bent my door lock so I had to screw the door lock up so it was flush with the passenger side and when he was tightening a bolt for the driver's window he scraped my interior panel on the concrete, nice scratches there. Also busted my trunk release button on the door because he forgot a part that was laying on the ground after he put the panel back on and tightened everything so he tried to pry the button out rather than taking the panel back off. He did fix the button but now it sticks in when depressed) Only thing he fixed was the door sill ding he put there and buffed the hell out of it. I called Geico and they said since I took it to that body shop (my choice of shop) they can't do anything about it. Since they can't help, what is my options?

If the body shop isn't cool with having SOMEONE ELSE paint it, can I take him to court or anything similar? I'm getting really pissed off because I feel like I'm getting screwed. Any input is appreciated...

I'm sure there are some consumer protection agencies you could contact, no? The BBB or hell even the news

there's no way I'd take that crap. If they can't fix it right, they need to pay for it to be fixed by someone else.

I would take it to another body shop (or maybe two) and get estimates of what it will cost to restore the car to pre-accident condition. Then take these to the shop that screwed you car up and demand payment. If (when) they refuse to pay, go after them in small claims court.

I would speak to the manager about possible lawsuit and contacting ASE to have any certs revoked on the tech that worked on the car (If they have any).

Through my years I cant count on my fingers and toes how many techs I seen have their certs revoked due to issues liked this.

Never take receipt of a car with body work in the rain. Never buy a car in the rain... I would have GEICO go after them... They were the ones who paid for that crappy work.

Geico said they won't do anything because I picked the shop. They called him this morning to discuss the last $400 check for the job (which Geico thought they mailed but apparently didn't) and he said to them he'd be willing to work with me to fix the problems. But I already brought it to his ass last week for four days. Don't know if I want to really work with him if he's just going to act like it's no big deal and blow me off. I'm sick of his Sh*t.

Oo, the kicker here... The kid that painted my car was in my grade ('07) and he failed out of a University so he went to go paint for his uncle. (his uncle who owns the shop can paint good, he's just a lazy fat a$$ so he doesn't)

Time to call a lawyer, the BBB and also if the store is part of any chamber of commerce.
