it's most likely a garter snake, as not many other snakes can live that far north and it definitely looks like a garter snake to me.
if you are concerned, NO, it is not poisonous even if that isn't a garter snake for some reason, i am still 100% sure it is not poisonous or harmful in any way. in fact, they do good by keeping the mice population in check. edit: yep, definitely a garter snake. it even has that signature line on its back. by the way, Dekay's brown snake is simply a variation of the common garter snake. same family, so it could be either.

Thanks guys!
Yeah, my buddy and I were walking when we came across this little guy. It was trying to cross over to the bushes coming from the creek. It was on the walkway when we saw it. These things are quiet slow on paved areas, so worried that someone else may kill it if spotted, we moved it to the bushes with a stick. Thanks for the responses. I was quiet curious and with my little to no knowledge about snakes, was wondering which family it belonged to. My friend right away knew it was garter. |
