I don't think the ZL1 would have gained too much in the straight. Now don't get me wrong. It's obviously going to gain some, but it's not going to pass the Z28 like it's standing still.
Its after the back strait that things gets complicated and slow for the Z28, he is breaking early and exiting carefully. Watch how the ZL1 managed the last stint in absolute mph, Its way above the Z28 compare to the first 6 minutes where it was slower in mid corner speed.

The Z28 will crack the 7:30 under dry conditions.

After watching the video again, I appreciate the driver even more! He was in it to win it.

Man - Z/28 sounds GREAT! It was cool to get an out-of-vehicle camera. The G's it was pulling were amazing. It seemed like he (?Link?...) wasn't completely accelerating through all parts of the track, but he's certainly more brave than I; and more talented.

Excellent work GM and Team CAMARO!!!

Just a few comments/questions.

Have they advertised the HP/TQ of the LS7 in this application? I saw where it got a set of Tri-Y "LT's" maybe more like mid lengths. That's got to be worth something, I would imagine TQ more than HP.

There is NO WAY this will beat a ZO6/7 it has too many disadvantages. Weight, Aero, etc.

To the guys who believe this is the most this car can do... Seriously? If you don't think he lifted and slowed down when the rain started (although not enough for my tastes this driver is a maniac) you have never driven anything fast other than on Forza Motorsports... lol

Is it bad If I am not impressed...

I hope that rain was as bad as it sounds, I hope they do some better runs when the track is dry... But a 7:37 does not impress me for this car if that's its peak...

If it was 3 seconds faster a lap around GM's test track, it should have been well over 3 seconds faster than the ZL1 here. low 7:30's is what it should run....

Guess only time will tell.... But now that they have released this, I am wondering if they will release another time....

EDIT: Okay I re-watched the video and did not realize the fair amount of rain at the last minute or 2. Still think on a dry track this car should run low 7:30's.... REALLY hope they do some more laps in dry weather.

Not this BS again...

It's "legal" in any HPDE anywhere in the USA and also "legal" in SCCA Time Trials.

Let's put an end to this made-up "illegality" crap.

I agree. A 7:29.xx should be possible on a 100% dry track. The driver had to soft pedal it in the two most important corners on the track, among others. That costs HUGE amounts of time. I have no idea why they didn't wait for a better day. Very bad planning IMO.

Its probably hard to plan that around weather, I am sure they have limited time as it is.

And didn't they first start testing at the ring in April? Don't get me wrong, it is a great time any way you slice it. Just seems strange they did not publish a time in more favorable conditions.

If you're not impress with the driving showcased in this video, then Yes it is bad that you are not impressed.
It only means you didn't watch it and sounds like you only care absolute numbers & bragging rights.

If the Z/28 ran a 7:37:47 in Damp/rainy condition, you know that it going to be faster on a dry run, right?
You even said so: `low 7:30's is what it should run…’’

So, really, why are you not impress?

Are you not happy that GM release a stunning performance of the best Camaro ever made beating all previous iterations in a wet run?

Thank you, I couldn't make up the date because of my small screen!
So this means, it's the second time they came with the C7 vet.
The first time was with the camouflage Mule early 2013.

Just curious...no doubt all the other makes showcase their best run....or is this rain thing just bad luck/luck of the draw type thing....Were all the other cars on the list run in perfect weather and track conditions? Was the Zl-1 run absolutely perfect?

Too bad after all this wait we get a "controversial" video to chew on....If the video for the Z/28 was "officially" released, I would think there would be some supporting information/details along with it, at the very least an explanation of weather, track, safety factors that affect the time...dunno, just sayin'....
