I am interested in what other people that live up north are planning on doing for tires once winter comes around again.

I have a 2LT RS Transformer package with 20" x 8" Front and 20" x 9" Rear Polished Aluminum rims.

I can't find good All Weather Tires besides truck tires around here. If you have been able to find some could you tell me about them. I'm open for suggestions.

Besides I don't know if I should get all-weather tires for the same Transformer rims, since that seems like a waste because I already have the nice summer tires.

Should I down grade my rims for the winter and get a set of winter tires on 'non-transformer' rims? If so any suggestions?

This is my only car, so I will need to be able to drive it in the middle of a snowstorm. I never had an issue with my 98 Camaro, but I never had summer tires before either.

Nothing. The tires stay on the car. However, the car goes back in the garage until spring.

Seriously though, on my '02 Z28 I ran all season tires.

You could do what I did. Get yourself a set of Pirelli scorpion Ice and snow tires that fit your stock rims, then get another set of stock rims (I see quite a few for sale) and put your summer or winter wheels on them. Your car looks stock all year round.

The transformer are just center caps, and they aren't that expensive. Like $15 per wheel.

You really will need to get different tires for winter. It's easiest to get another set of rims and put either winter or all season tires on them. Then you can either change the wheels in your garage or make it a lot easier for a shop to do it.

The other option is to sell your stock tires and put all season tires on your stock rims.

Personally, I park my car in my garage and cover it for winter. I have a winter and bad weather car. I realize not everyone can do that.

I bought a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS for my SS to use for most of the year. I was willing to trade some performance for treadlife, since I was hearing numbers like 12-15000 miles on the Pirellis.
I also bought a set of Pirelli Scorpion Ice/Snow for winter driving, and put them on some used aluminum rims I bought from this forum.

On my 2SS/RS, I purchased a set of Moda 18 in. rims and Firestone Winterforce tires to go with them. I drove with them all winter, and they worked EXCELLENT in the snow.

However, when I removed them from the car, I noticed a slight groove (maybe 1/16 inch) cut into the inside of the rims, front only. Turns out, the lower tie rod link was a bit too large and low, interfering with the wheel. I didn't notice it until I removed the winter wheels and put the OEM wheels back on. So now I have a groove in the fronts. Other than aesthetics, I don't see a real issue.

I purchased them from Tire Rack, and when I called about it, I was told that they discontinued those winter sets for the SS, because of interference issues. Yup, sho nuff...

They told me I could return the wheels/tires for full credit, but I declined. Since they DO work, and I know what the fit issue is, I am going to use them next season. But first, I'm going to dremel the tie rod down a bit, to remove some metal at the contact point. I'm figuring it's a safe bet. And, I'm happy with those whimpy 18 in. wheels otherwise.

Moral of the story, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Used summer tires through Oklahoma winter (Really really bad ice once a month for 2-3 days) and I was fine.

Just go with all weather.

All season tires IMO are crap, sorry for being blunt. Summer tires ROCK in the summer. Winter tires ROCK in the winter.

All-season tires NEVER ROCK at all.

I explain to people I know like this: A street bike(motorcycle) is a blast on the street.

A dirt bike(motorcycle) is a blast on the dirt.

An enduro bike(motorcycle) are for getting around=crap.

All-season tires are the Enduro of tires.
