Directional/Adaptive Headlights
Is there any such aftermarket product for the Camaro SS headlights making them directional/adaptive for turns and what-not? Makes it awfully hard to see in the dark when taking turns unless I'm high-beaming the living shit out of everyone.

You can pretty easily adjust the aim point up with a long phillips (or small flathead) screwdriver. Just make sure the beam cutoff doesn't go higher than horizontal or you'll be blinding oncoming cars.

You can custom build a servo motor into each headlight w/ a microprocessor w/ an input from the steering angle sensor that rotates the adjustment screw left and right... Probably not worth it.

Damn, one of the most useful mods to a car and they don't have anything like it on the market.

DIY - trigger off turn signal, tuck light into wheel well.

You can thank the big 3, back in 1948 they helped kill the Tucker, it was years a head of its time, 3 headlights and the center one moved withe you in a turn, dont know of a single car to this day that does that, do you.

Cadilacs had side lights that turn on depending on steering input. My '13 focus had same thing, was very handy for turning into dark driveway.. where you could actually see where light was cast. Nose / turrent view out camaro would probably negate that benefit.. front end just floats in vast area of poor visibility. Too many compromises of utility vs design.

Uhh... tons of them do it nowadays. Seen them since 5 years ago on Benz and Cadillacs and other models and none of those cars need it more than our performance cars do, since you know... we're the ones actually pushing it to the edge on turns and shit, not the plush cars that take shit at speed limit.

Mercedes Intelligent Multi-beam Light System Audi Matrix-beam LED Lighting BMW rotates the light assemblies inside the housing based on steering input, this is a replacement of the old cornering light technology which used spotting lights on a 15* degree. Mercedes & Audi use very complicated systems. Mercedes has multiple small light modules (but don't look bug eyed like Acura) which will activate wider angles with steering and forward road sensor input. Audi has multiple fixed headlights with high-beam intensity at all times, it uses the forward sensors to detect oncoming traffic and disables slices of the light picture to avoid blinding the other vehicle. I think the BMW approach is the simplest and safest for everyone on the road. It doesn't use full time high beams, doesn't use multiple modules, and could also be improved with a floating auto-level feature inside the housing which would prevent them from blinding people on incline changes or bumps in the road. |
