1973 Camaro RS Restoration
Well, I traded up the 1986 Z28 for a 1973 Rally Sport Camaro... It needs rear frame rails, rockers, fenders, tail light valance, floors, trunk pan, etc...
Any suggestions on how to go about doing the rear frame rails? Thanks in advance for any information! The car is all original except paint, 350ci (3970010) 2 barrel, A/C, tilt, rear defrost, TH350. |

Wow nice project car! You will have fun with it when it's all done. We have fun with our 73 LT.

With all that it needs I would start by gutting the car, stripping to metal, make a list of all replacement metal needed. I know the first gens if you do a full trunk you need to remove one quarter, tail panel, and inner tube to get the full trunk pan in. If the frame rails are shot and you remove too much structure, w/ out bracing your car can twist or warp then you’re screwed. The standard is to use a body jig or tube bracing to keep it square while under construction. Option B is pay to have it done.
You don't want to waist time cutting spot welds for the rear frame if the trunk is going to be replaced too. Just cut it all out

Very cool project! Love the split bumper RS. Like Grnmachine said, just cut the whole trunk floor out and replace it. I've got a '68 mustang on a rotisserie at home I'm restoring, so I love seeing these classics restored.
Keep us updated! I'm subscribing!

Love the 2nd Gen Rally Sports, although I may be just a little prejudice
I think you can get aftermarket complete or nearely complete rear frame rails. |
