I think the El Camino look alike actually had two names, started as one model in the 70s, and changed names in the 80s. But anyway, the reason I ask is the rumored "Chrysler Cuda" comes to mind. If Chrysler can consider re-using old plymouth model names then why can't GM do it with pontiacs or even olds'.
No. GMC building passenger cars would be the worst decision since the Cadillac Cimarron. The brand is a bastion for trucks, SUVs, and CUVs.

And GM Authority has VERY little influence over anything at GM.

GM dragged the Pontiac name through the dirt with badge engineering, so if they bring it back they need to give it the attention it deserves.

These people have as much influence at GM as I have on the National Debt.

Just speaking hypothetically, bringing back Pontiac would undo every last bit of good the restructuring did. Every car segment that Pontiac could sell could be filled by something sold (or could be sold) by Chevy, Cadillac, or Buick. It would do the same thing that having so many dealers within close proximity to eachother did drive the prices downward on their cars because they become commoditized.

GM is on the right path now, bringing back Pontiac is the wrong path. I'm glad these folks have no influence anywhere and this will never happen.

PS full disclosure, I'm a Pontiac man, from a Pontiac family. Every real performance car I owned up to 2006 was a Firebird or Trans Am aside from having a Grand National at one point. My grandfather drove a new Pontiac off the lot every 5 years. Thats the way it was. But its over now.

*reads thread..*

Still prefer the design ascetics and functionality of the Formula/Trans Am/Firehawks.. but be realistic guys.

This is never going to see the light of day again in any MY past 2002. V

Sorry to fans of the brand but this would be a terrible business decision at this time.

I liked the G8 when it was all fit out a lot. I thought it was one of the best looking American cars out there. Erik

We had a 2001 Grand Am and I loved that car, IMO Pontiac had the best looking and best performing 4-doors on the market. I hope to see them back, even for a short while, maybe one day a Trans Am will come out of it, based on the Phoenix conversion. We can dream...

Coming from a family that lives and breathes classic Pontiac's, i would love to see the brand back as an exciting separate entity from the other brands. If they developed the right designs and products it could be a low volume success. In no way should the brand come back for volume.

From what i understand, GM did not want to lose control of the brand during the bankruptcy, and held onto the rights instead of putting it in the "old GM" that went by the wayside or selling it. However i am not in the know and i am purely speculating from what i have heard.

Pontiac has a great owner following but you can only last so long when you don't produce exciting or different cars. I owned an 04 GTO and it was a great car, but it faced an uphill climb from the introduction.

Those are just some of my thoughts.
