if you ever sold it
I got a pretty good deal on my 14 SS and only have had almost 2 months so far and haven't done anything much to it yet.
Just wondering, considering the mods a lot of you guys have done if you wanted to sell your car how much would you lose? Or would anyone gain value |

Mods don't really add value, unless it's something like a SC or turbos.
I'd take a bath on mine if I had to sell. |

Realizing this is not an investment at least not yet but maybe down road( growing up we never thought our novas and chevelles would ever be worth much) |

Don't know if this applies to the C5, but I did mod the hell out of my 92 Vette, all internal, bored and stroked. When I sold it I never mentioned that I did all the mods. For the most part I personally would not buy a modded car. I like warranties. Its a business thing.

I would factor my mods in the sale. If someone wants a stock SS, then they can go look for a stock SS. I'm not saying I would ask full price on what I paid for my mods. But whatever I think my car is worth bone stock, I would add a little to it for the mods it has. I think that is fair. People concede on the price of a modded car when they are desperate to sell their car.

I would include the mods in the sale of mine. I had an offer on my SS a few months ago. It wasn't for sale at the time but the deal was too good to say no too but unfortunately the deal fell thru. I tried selling it privately for a few weeks or so but I found myself being picky about who wanted her so I just took her off the market. Shes sitting in my garage in hibernation. No regrets.

I hadn't done much to mine, cai, skip shift, led fogs, painted bowties, strut brace, and some other cosmetic mods and they gave me an extra 1k to leave the stuff on. I paid right at 700 for all the stuff so I came out ahead 300. I got what I bought the car for 9 months earlier, after I decided I could get alot more out of my old truck power wise for a whole lot less $$$ then I would have to dump into my SS to make her run as hard. Only thing i wish i had kept was the fog light bulbs out of the whole deal.

While some mods may add some value over a non modded car, generally they do not add enough value to recoupe the cost of the mod.

I wonder if those who say that one cannot make money back from their custom cars have ever sold a custom car?
As long as you do not get ripped for the money paid for mods/installation, making at least 50% of the money invested back is rather easy. It can easily go up to 75% of the money invested, but never 100% on a used car. I have done it before on cars that were a couple of years old. If someone wants a stock car, there a PLENTY of options for them unless it's a Rolls Royce or some other high end model/trim costing over $125k. Another word of advice is not to spend more than 15-20% of the money spent on the total price of the car (before taxes) on mods. You can't get money back on such excessive spending.
