No they didnt, you just didnt or dont like what they sold....below is a copy of my post earlier.

Alot of people dont care for the Mustang II but it was the 2nd best selling Mustang behind the original. The Mustang II sold over 400,000 cars in its first year alone so it defintely wasnt a failure for Ford but for Mustang fans, probably so.

They (Ford) made very quick Cobra Mustangs from 2000-2004 which would run with any SS Camaro or WS6 Trans/Am...

only the 03-04's were quick, and weren't a mustang gt. the n\a 4v cobras were slow.

sure it sold well, but it wasn't a mustang. or a pony car. it was a sub compact and competed against the vega and not the Camaro.

I guess you can call it what you want, it outsold the camaro, firebird, vega and monza of the day...

The "Cobra" was a sales gimmick the car was still a mustang, we all know that...Im not defending anyone because I think from 1994-2004 the 4.6 motor sucked for Ford and they got their clock cleaned by the Camaro's...

In the 80's mustangs destroyed camaros even the 350 tpi's, in the 90's chevy returned the favor and wiped mustang ass...now it's ford dominating the streets again, hunting ss owners down one at a time with the coyotes ...what will chevy bring in 2016. I cant wait.

Your wrong about the Coyote's "hunting SS Camaro's" one at a time, we all know the LS3 has more power all around its just a matter of about 300lbs with the Camaro. From everything ive seen and read the race between a Coyote and a LS3 is a drivers race, one slip and it can go either way.

You do realize the original Mustang was based on Ford's economy car too, right? All of your posts show a serious lack of any knowledge. the Mustang GT was quicker than ANY Camaro through the 80s and until 92, the 3V GTs weren't that far off an LS1s average pace (let's be honest, the ones running 12s were factory freaks and most were mid 13s or worse), And the 03-09 Mustang Gt was CERTAINLY quicker than it's Camaro counterpart. hell, I would say there were versions of the Mustang II that were quicker than their overweight counterparts with their neutered V8s, especially in the late 70s. the Mustang NEVER ceased production and really the mustang 2 returned the Mustang to it's roots of smaller, lighter, cheaper, and based on Ford's economy car. It was the 70s for Christ Sakes, everything was neutered........

True words! My '77 Camaro with 305, 2 bbl, and auto trans made a whopping 110HP. By the late '80's 4 cylinder imports were quicker. I loved that car and at times I still miss her!

Forget what you read and find out the right way...stock for stock the 5.0 is faster..even camaro owners like myself found out eventually. I wont get into which engine is better. No slips, its faster...trust me

stopping production of the Camaro was not about lack of sales. actually the Camaro\firebird combo was the second best selling cars in it's class. the real reason gm temporarily stopped production of the Camaro was because they badly needed to close the expensive to operate plant in quebec, which had a contract to build the Camaro until around 2017 or so. so as long as they were building a Camaro, they legally had to build it in quebec. the only other option was to cease building the Camaro until they could shut down and dispose of the quebec plant.

I had thought that the F-cars could not continue to be produced due to new crash/impact standards that the cars could not meet... ?

Fixed it for you.

Sometimes we forget that the ratings system changed from Gross hp to Net hp in the early '70s. The emissions junk and low compression engines didn't help your Camaro, but when you read about a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 making "450 hp" and then a '77 camaro making "110 hp", bear in mind that the two cars were not rated on the same hp scale.

I'm well aware of the gross to net difference, but thanks for pointing that out.
