turbo kits
hey guys i am debating on going with a turbonetics turbo system or huron turbo kit. also considering procharger, i have used turbo kits in the past and had drive ability issues. any feedback on these kits would be appreciated.

That's a broad question. Can you be more specific? If you're interested in a SC as well as a single turbo, why not go twins? what are your power goals? Budget?
A properly tuned car, with modifications can be very drivable. It's all in the tune.

just comparing those 2 kits, i have done turbo kits before and had driveability issues. (hellion) i want to make sure the bends are correct and install goes as planned. hp on stock l99 motor i want is 5-600 to the wheels. most important is drive ability, the hellion kit had the bov to close to the maff and would cause the car to turn off when shifting.

Agp tt kit feels and drive stock until you push the magic pedal but if your wanting the turbos visible then yes I would go with the above mentioned routes

youre also in ca, so having a CARB legal system just narrowed your choices to one, turbonetics.

no, mine is manual. driveability is fine, and probably has a lot more to do with the tune than the kit. it drives like stock all day long if you want, but above say3k, and in boost it pulls pretty hard! on the plus side you have a great tuner in your backyard.

i've had the turbonetics kit for about 6 months now and have found it to be great as far as driveablity. i honestly couldnt tell much of a difference before and after untill getting it into boost. .overall it seems to me like the turbonetics kit is really geared towards maintaining stock like/ daily driving characteristics and getting you into the 500whp range on an otherwise stock ls3/l99 on pretty low boost at that. being carb approved is a plus too if you need it...(i have no cats but its nice to know if i ever move somewhere that requires inspection i can make it 50 state legal)
for what its worth... i show 20-25mpg if i can maintain 65-70 in sixth gear.. but around town it drops off and i average around 11-13mpg... just on the DIC...i havent done any real mpg calculations as i really dont care personally but it seems like i burn through fuel alot faster just generally speaking lol.. granted im not "otherwise stock" either.

Once you swap injectors/tune that DIC readings are no where near accurate unless the tuner went in and "tuned" those too, which I've never seen.

yah i figured, that calculator is surely not "tuned" haha. i was more so making a comparison of highway vs side streets. not so much the actual numbers i guess. Generally, i get pretty good range on the highway but its terrible on side streets or in traffic is all. Although not really a drivabilty concern... but just an unsurprising observation some people might be interested in. =) Last edited by robbiegordon; 07-24-2016 at 10:39 AM. |

I have had a turbonetics kit for 3 years! I upgraded 16 months ago.
the turbonetics kit, no cats, mufflers, upgraded fuel system and a tune from SPi upgraded axles they built the car! the car has 50 000 miles on the original block with the kit it has gone 11.39 at 126 mph with a crappy 60ft the car is literally an animal under boost i have run hellcats GT500s and even a ZR1 with exhaust and tune this kit and car holds its own every time call reggie at Turbonetics! just my opinion

That is going to depend on many many things. Could be 2000rpm or 5000rpm. Turbo size, tuning, exhaust, which kit, etc all effect when you see full boost.
