Mobile 1 75w-90 LS question (V6)

Has anyone put Mobil 1 75w-90 LS gear oil in a V6 manual transmission?

I was about to use it as it says it meets GL-5 requirements (and also my differential) but I just read a post on here somewhere saying that I should not have any friction modifier in the transmission (an NS option which I don't think Mobile 1 has).

Will the Mobil 1 75w-90 LS hurt the transmission?

Thanks,

Chris

PS- I know this should probably be in Maintenance section but I was hoping to get a few more reads in this section.

The LS gear oil is for the rear differential, not the tranny. I dont know if it is even the right stuff for transmission. I used it in my rear diff but still needed the friction modifier additive to make it work right.

ok- so I'm thinking

Oil- Mobil1
Transmission- RedLine 75w-90 NS
Differential- Mobil 1 75-90 LS +/- the friction modifier

Or am I stuck only using what the dealer sells?

Thoughts anyone?

For the Engine Oil and Diff those would be fine. I dont know about the tranny since I dont have a manual transmission. There's no reason to use what the dealer sells as long as you use stuff that meets GM specs.

well, I just put Mobile 1 75W-90 LS oil my my Asian AY6 tranny. I've heard you still have to add LS additive if you use this oil in the rear diff. Theoretically it should work fine for the tranny, as GM specs GL5. But I'm staring to wonder if the GL-5 spec oil could be a problem for this transmission.

update-
decided to drain out the Mobile 1 and put in Red Line 75W90 NS GL-5 instead. I think the limited slip additive in Mobile may cause harder shifts.

Correct, you don't use LS gear lube in the AY6 trans. Just GL5 spec 75w90.

happy with Red Line 75W-90 NS gear oil. Did some upper 6K fast & hard shifts...feels better. No grinds into 2nd. However, the only time I would occasionally grind 2nd was when traction control was turned off. Didn't get a chance to test that scenario, but the tranny does feels smoother with the new syn oil.

Don't let GM know ... they won't cover your warranty if u use royal purple or redline along with many other top performing brands ...
