My friend is interested in buying a beautiful 1968 camaro ss I would like to know what you guys would pay for this? He wants to make an offer but isn't sure what is reasonable.

nice car how much is he willing to offer? because that car aint cheap if it was a regular ss i say around 20-30k but its proably alot more seeing the 454 in it.See if its possible to look at it in person just in case he/she is hiding something

Another question, when an older car like this gets a big motor swap should my friend be concerned of anything breaking? (transmission, axles, differential) I don't know how tough these cars are built....

Its a 40 yr old car. Stuff is gonna break even with a 6 banger in it.

Stuff always breaks that the nature of big power. If you baby the car (not likely) then you can get manys years out of a build. If the car makes big power, but not all the power train receives an upgrade this could indicate short cuts in the build then factor in breaks they will happen; also inspect a little closer.

Mecum has an auction this week an can be a tool in what the current market is. As I stated before this type of resto seem to be around the 20 to 25k mark w/ the auctions take. I use recent sales to help set a price this help also determine how motivated the seller really is. If the car is close to market then it's worth a second look, but if the price is way sky high I typically will never give it a second look and move on really not worth my time. This also helps with any surprises that come up later or if the car has to be sold you can get most if not all your investment back. In some cases you might even make some $.

the meat and potatoes the seller is leaving out...like if he has the protecto plate and whats on the trim tag...w out knowing just lookin at the car maybe 30k

An appraisal would be a good place to start. Depending on how it is going to be insured the underwriter will likely require an appraisal in order to cover the proper replacement cost (market value) of the car.

Need details on the undercarriage, suspension and if anything lurks under the body. There was no original leather and does he still have the original 396, that is what will create increased value to that Z?

then what, you are going to have to rebuild again. Unless you can do the work, rebuild is going to cost you!!!!
