The fact of the matter is the base model Z06 is still 20k more than the base model GT500. For them to be even competitive down the strip is a pretty big achievement for Ford. I mean we are talking about GM's halo car platform (notice I said platform and I'm not comparing it to the ZR1).

If by referring to the "old" Z06, then you must be implying the "new" Z06 as the Z06 with the performance package. Then no, the GT500 doesn't stand a chance. The Z06 w/PP is also $100K.

Hell if I ever hit the money, I'd be getting a Z06 with the PP. I'd send it straight to Late Model Racecraft and that would be all she wrote. It's an insanely good car.

However, when you look at bang for your buck performance, I don't think there's any doubt that the '13 GT500 is at the top of the list.

the c6 zo6 has been out for a long time. it is inevitable that eventually somebody will release a car that will be chasing its heels for less money. i'm not sure why that's surprising.

i eagerly await the release of the c7.

I think it's great consumers have the SS/ZL1/5.0/GT 500/Challengers to choose from, they're all awesome cars.

But you gotta chill out dude!

C&D ran instrumented tests (minus Top Speed) and got virtually the same numbers ...

I don't think Randy Pobst is a "shoe" for any particular car manufacturor. He is currently racing with KPax driving a Volvo in the World Challenge GT class. He has drivin for Mazda and many others thru the years. He occasionally writes stories for SCCA's Sports Car mag. He's just a professional driver...one who I have some respect for as we've run against him thru the years.

If you have an "issue" with him, I'll be glad to ask him about it this weekend. I'll probably run into him at the Detroit Gran Prix at Belle Isle.

Well, things got a bit snippy over the weekend... I have only a couple of comments...

1. I don't care if your GT500 runs 9's, pulls lateral g's like an Ariel Atom, and can go 250 mph all day long... A Mustang is not comparable to a Corvette... That doesn't make the Mustang a bad car, or the Corvette a "better" car in any general-way, it just means that they are two completely different approaches towards automobile design. Even though I'm a GT500 owner on this forum, please fellow-Ford-owners, quit chest-pounding over potentially beating Corvettes. You could theoretically build a Ford Pinto that could scald a stock Z06 on all sorts of tracks as well, but that just doesn't mean anything, or cast the Z06 in a poor light.

2. For all of the "how did they run that then, but this now, and that in that but not that.." nonsense, guys, PLEASE, understand how much can change on a different day, at a different track, with different weather... Cherry-picking slow times is an age-old hobby for internet trolls wishing to prove nonsensical points.
