I say compare any car you want to. If you want to compare a ZR1 with a Hyundai Genesis- go for it. If you want to compare a GT500 to a Viper go for it.

People with 2013 Mustang GT500s have major bragging rights, they have an awesome car, it is out of the box super fast, and handles well. It is priced amazing for the performance you get and so it compared to "better" cars. If you only compare it to a ZL1 things get old quickly. The fact of the matter is, it can destroy 100K+ cars with ease on many tracks. And it costs substantially less.

Again, if you own a GT500 and want to compare it to a Z06 or ZR1 go for it. You might not have the overall better performing car, but the fact the two cars can confidently be mentioned in the same sentence is a major ata boy from me.

Now, please excuse me. I must go, and call the dealership, and ask where the hell are my plates for my car little ole 5.0

He isn't. But he is a "shoe" for Motor Trend. So the video, offered, is a Motor Trend rehash. Right down to and including Pobst's driving. Right down to the Motor Trend article, included, and the drive from Atlanta to AZ. At 43 mph average, BTW! No wonder Motor Trend quit sponsoring the One Lap of America.

That is my point, as opposed to it being another confirmation of the capabilities of the GT500 from another source. It's a Motor Trend piece, under a "third party" format.

Journalistic integrity?

BTW, was the opening garage shot not taken in El Segundo at the Source Interlink shop? Executive Producer of the video is Angus MacKenzie? MT all the way...

I'm just making the point that the Corvette is a thinly-veiled race car under its skin. 2-passenger, purpose-built.

The Mustang (and Camaro for that matter) is a not-so-thinly veiled passenger/pony car, with V6 variants available cheap.

The fact that Ford and GM can make their donkeys run with, and even out-run, their thoroughbreds is amazing, applaudable, and FUN!! It makes super-car performance available for passenger-car money. But I never delude myself into thinking my car is more blue-blood than it is. The $19K V6's sitting in rental car lots remind of that, and keep my ego in-check.

I love my GT500. It's currently faster (straight-line-acceleration) than any production Corvette (a 60-140mph pull against a ZR1 would be a nose-squeeker..). But it's no Corvette, or Porsche, or Ferrari, etc...

Don't mistake this delineation as an "insult" to pony cars. It's not. It's just being real and objective and honest. I PREFER driving pony cars on a daily basis, and would NOT want a Corvette for the same type of duty. Been there, done that... Enough times to not do it again...

You don't need to be Dan Akerson's best buddy to get a Z06. Or a ZR1.

An obvious case of love being not only "blind", but "deaf and dumb", too.

Can you translate that post in English?

FWIW, my GT500 isn't stock, so unless you're sporting a 5.3 lb/hp power-weight ratio or better, please don't be flustered. My intention wasn't to rattle my sabre, it was an indirect way of supporting the Corvette...

There's always a faster car out there. Which is why I just don't care anymore, I'm in it for myself and my own fun, could care less who's faster.

I'm not trying to hate on the new GT500 or argue with anyone on the performance of the car because it is a very capable car and reminds me of how in the 60's Chevy underated the 69 ZL1 and now Ford did that with this GT500 why Chevy didnt do that this time I dont know. Its not really fare to compare the current Camaro to the current Mustang just based on the weight differences between the two cars let alone the horsepower differences. BUT what is blasphemous and crazy is for Mustang fans to think they can take this new GT500 and beat a Corvette ZR-1 we are talking two different purpose built cars with one weighing in at 3,333lbs and the other 3,850lbs. I think it is hard to say the new Shelby could beat a base ZO6 too if anything it is a drivers race and add the ZO7 package and the Corvette wins for sure.

Back in the day h.p. ratings were under-rated for the purpose of optimizing NHRA classification. Same reason the 428CJ was rated at a laughable 335hp in 1968 as well...

And I agree with Blue Maro, although you must admit that the Nissan GTR has kinda "blurred the lines" between weight classes as it pertains to handling abilities..

(Inserts 1.2L engine and 675 LB weight bias to the Z06 comment)

And the ZL1 needs magnetic ride and a supercharger to do what the Boss 302 does n/a.

I'm glad "Joe" mentioned the One Lap...a real-world, no rules, no-holds-barred (other than bona fide street tires) all-disciplines annual event. Run regardless of weather, drags excluded. Road course. Slalom. Skid pad. Drag race.

Since the 1992 event, when the TSD rally format was replaced by "race track times-only", there have been 210 Top 10 combined finishes...and Mustang has exactly THREE, including a Best-ever finish last year of 3rd Overall, with Pro driver Billy Johnson in a '12 Roush-owned and -prepared Stage 3. Even Evan Smith tried, and managed only a Top 15, a couple years back.

BTW, a genuine Ford GT never cracked the Top 5...

Camaros...and Firebirds in the Top 10? 20-some, with several Top 5s. Corvettes? A bunch more, including an Overall Win! All-round performance? Always a GM "haul-mark"...NOT "fresh news" as some here would have you believe...

The current "hot ticket" in One Lap? Yup...GTRs, especially with Pro Leh Keen at the tiller. Now 4-in-a-row! Hard to outrun AWD and mega-power on often-damp springtime tracks...

Why don't you wait for the 1LE to come out this time before you start making claims, k?

Hot Rod Magazine runs a fun event every September called Drag Week...literally a group of guys running their cars from strip to strip, as well as down each strip, across the Midwest. Winning motor-vation, annually? Yes siree, Bob... Chebbies. Although this past year saw a strong run (actually several) by a PINTO...also powered by a Chebbie...

If ya caint beat 'em, join 'em.
