V6 vs V8 difference in driving
I was wondering if anyone has driven both. I have the V6, and was thinking about getting the V8. How much difference is there really? I am not a horsepower nut. Basically I was wondering if it would be like having two totally different cars or would they be the same except for having a bigger engine.

I have not driven both but from what I understand the V6 has a much smoother ride than the V8 due to the different suspension. Obviously the V8 has more power and is going to thrust you back into your seat more. The noise levels in the V6 are also supposed to be much reduced given you a much quieter cabin.
Can anyone back me up or dispute any of that?

Have driven both, back to back. Same route, over some railroad tracks.
The V6 version was MAYBE slightly smoother. Both were impressive rides and rode very smooth. Didn't get on them very much as one was a friends car and the V6 was the dealer car for the May 6th celebration. |

I doubt that many have been able to compare. It is tough to find a dealer that has both and most dealers are not allowing test drives unless your ready to sign. From what I have read in the magazines the V6 cars are a lot of fun to drive, handle very well and have plenty of power. I was comparing the 2010 V6 Camaro stats to my 1994 Z28 stats and the 2010 with a V6 kicks the crap out of the old Z28 so when you look at it that way, not bad.

I have been lucky enough to drive both and wow let me tell you very impressed!!! The V6 is great very smooth and dont let anyone snub their nose at you if you get the v6 its pretty quick I was very surprised. It was the auto LT1 trim. Ok now for the SS it was auto 2SS/RS wow a whole different animal.I felt like I was controling a wild animal that was willing to do my bidding at press of the pedal! It felt great off acceleration really put you back and gave me that special feeling in my pants LOL. You really couldnt tell much difference in the ride pretty smooth handled great! If you can afford it SS all the way but the V6 is a great car and you'll be thrilled w either good luck!

I haven't driven a new SS yet, but in my experience, there's a difference in how different types of engines feel. Maybe it's just me, but driving a four cylinder seems like a completely different experience that driving a six. The eights I've driven have also seemed pretty much completely different (more powerful) than the sixes I've driven, regardless of horsepower ratings.
Maybe that's just my experience, though.

Check for some of my past posts on both cars, that may help.
First you have to compare which V6 with the V8. An LT RS has the same 20" wheels as the SS so it will ride firmer than a base LS or LT. But Number 3 was a 1LT with 18s and Mrs. Number 3's SS really show a difference. The 18s do provide a smoother, quieter ride. But the SS is not harsh, just noticeably firmer. You do a get a bit more tire noise with the 20s as well. SS braking is better with the Brembo's SS handling is better due to suspension and tires. SS is noisier on the highway due to tires LT is smooooooooth. Trip to California - best trip car ever! Ride like a Cadillac CTS but a little bit noisier. Awesome. SS is firm. Trip to Florida - very nice. Not at all harsh. Better than a Corvette for ride and noise levels.

If you don't care about horsepower, then save your money and buy the V6. V6's are still nice and fast, but you will save money on gas and probably save on insurance too.
I myself ordered a V8 (still don't have it btw although I'm told by a new friend that is very close now), but struggled a little with it and considered changing my order to the V6 and putting the difference back in my pocket. |

I have also driven both. My 2LT/RS has the 20" wheels so not any difference there. The things that I noticed about the 2SS were low end torque and exhaust note. I didn't have an opportunity to get it up above 50 mph so not able to truly appreciate many of the benefits of V8. My 2LT's ride is slightly smother and braking is not quite as solid but not really as many differences as one might think. They are both incredible cars.
