Removing the Speed "Cap"

I know its been discussed before and ive been wanting to do this for awhile.

How can you remove the 118 "Cap" for the speed on the Camaro LS (2011)

You would need to tune it out.

Like said above, the speed limiter can be removed with a tune. However you will lose your powertrain warranty in the process of doing this. On another note, the limiter is based on the maximum safe speed rating of the factory tires.

You need a tune. But remember that it voids your power train warranty

Why? Are you going to be racing it? As far as I know 118 is way over any legal speed limit. Unless you are taking it to the track there is no sane reason for it to be removed.

Its cool just to say you have it, and you know its there. I'm not childish enough to do it, but that would be my only justification.

It is due to safety standards ... The top isn't capable of speeds of 185.

+1

GMs lawyers probably decided this one. They don't want responsibility if something happens with the top at 185 which is what the coup is drag restricted to

you may be able to get an updated VCI from the dealer for 20" accesory rims, it may remove the limiter, not sure though. that way you can keep your warranty
