It's strictly a 1/4 mile car...not street legal. No creature comforts necessary.

Not sure what they changed to make it an 8 second car. The 2013 427 Copo Camaro (Which is the largest, most powerful Copo engine this year) is a 9.20 to 9.60 car off the Build Center Floor. I was told this by Jamie Meyer, who is the Chevrolet Performance Marketing Manager. Fill the 6 Gallon Tank with Sunoco Supreme 112 Octane, and take it to the track. I'm sure most of the specs were "tweaked" a little bit for TV. I guess we will see once the show airs.

GMG Also had a 2013 Camaro Drag Chassis for sale for $85,000, that could have been bought new for $55,000. it is basically a Copo Camaro Rolling Chassis built be the guys at the Copo Build Center. It is complete except for the engine and trans. I saw a couple of these cars in the shop when I picked up my Copo in July. They are not considered Copo Cars, and are serialized differently, and do not have Copo markings on the car anywhere.

A true Copo has the Copo Logo on the grill, the Breather caps on the valve covers, and it is part of the serial number. A typical Copo Serial Number is 2013COPO-0XX depending upon what the car's number is. It also has a copy of the original sales certificate in the trunk, as well as one hidden in the car in another place. The original owners name, dealer name and car number are listed on this certificate as well as the cars color, engine, trans, and graphics color for future reference. The CDC Cars have a Serial number 2013CDC-0XX. I was told only 20 of these rollers were offered for sale. Even the wheels are different on these cars because the Copo cars have Copo machined into the wheels.

love the show, I want the rambler they redid! Great entertainment, they scored to get the Camaro because it's way out of GMG's league!

I saw this car recently at a local cruise night. The owner bought it at the Reno Barrett Jackson auction for 125k.
It sounds awesome.

None of the '13's can run an 8, no way. There are 2 local to me, one is the world's fastest at 8.49. The fastest a 427 car has been is in the 9.20's.

I really enjoy the show as well, and liked the F40 build.

Guess we'll have to tune in and see. Article says it's gonna show the drag runs in the show.

There are 2012 Supercharged Copos running in the mid to high 8's but I have not seen or hear of a 2013.

In 2012 they built a 5.3 with a 2.9 Supercharger, a 5.3 with a 4.0 Supercharger, and a 427, normally aspirated.

For 2013 they changed the engines. They are now offering all normally aspirated engines, no more superchargers. Current choices are a 350, a 396, and the 427. Obviously the 427 is the top dog for this year, and like I stated earlier, I was told 9.20's to 9.60 depending upon driver and conditions.

I like the show, just for the sake of fun with old cars, but this is too over the top for me. COPO Camaro and rodding out old clunkers are worlds apart.

Paul Cambria and his wife Paula have COPO's. His is a 5.3 with the 4.0L blower. He has the world record at 8.49 at 161mph. Paula's is a 427 N/A car and typically runs mid 9's but has been faster in really good air. There were head gasket issues with the big blower cars for 2012. The heads they were using were 4-bolt per cylinder. The block can accomodate the 6-bolt per cylinder heads, but at the time of the planning for the 2013's NHRA hadn't approved them yet. Later in 2013 they allowed the 2012's to convert to specific 6-bolt heads. That is why there are no blower cars for 2013, GM didn't know if NHRA would allow the 6-bolt heads when they were making the decisions for the 2013's. You guys have to understand the rules about the COPO's. They are Super Stock, and Stock Eliminator cars. The rules are VERY strict. You can't just go and swap whatever heads you want, whatever blower, etc, etc. You can't go hog wild and port the heads, you can't put a stroker crank in, etc, etc. You have to work with the EXACT part numbers that come with the car according to the rule book. There are areas that you can modify with a lot of leeway such as the transmission, but engine changes are looked at with a microscope. Same with the weight of the car, it must be within spec.

Paula's in front, Paul's in back:

Yeah, and those big wrinkly tires in the back with the white lettering make it look all yucky! Gross!
