LS3 fan on off temps? After cam, warmer than normal

After a few seach attempts I am unable to find the factory LS3 temp points for when the fan comes on and turns off or hi/lo. After a cam install I am getting a little warmer than normal, sitting in traffic with air temps well over a 100 the last few days. (doesn't help!) Normally car ran around 190-192 with fans rarely running. Yesterday the fans were coming on around 220+ then at 217 went to low speed then off by 200 or so. The car is HP tuned but no fan settings were adjusted yet, they were left to factory specs. I have tried to get more air out of the radiator but it seems to be flowing as normal, and fan coolant switches are working, suggesting no air pockets near the sensors.

Thanks!!

You may need a new t-stat... did you remove it for the cam?

may as well get the 180°F stat while you are in there.

Those sound like normal on/off temps. Stock on/off temps are always pretty high for emissions.

Why didn't you have a 160* thermostat installed with the cam and the car tuned with lower fan settings? I consider that a MUST.

Stock settings on my 2010 were 221 low 228 high fan on. The lowest you can go with the stock operating system and still have them shut off is 196 on and 192 off. I have it on low all the time and high at 196 now. $100 extra you can get a custome operating system that will allow lower settings.

custom os is the way to go, you can control the fan on/off all the way down to 160*f

Thanks for the on off temp info, I will probably be changing the fan on off and speeds here soon!

Custom OS means your giving up something to get something Not a good Idea with these cars.

You really don't want the engine running below 185 being an aluminum block and heads.

The Fans are on a progressive Scale

89 C they are at 24% till 99 C then they start to ramp up to 91% by 109 C.

If you Car is Running Hotter after the Cam it is in the Tune, Predominately the timing tables.

Ted.

Not on the camaro I have. off, low or high is it. The percentages just turn it on or off. At 50% it goes to an output state that turns it on low. At 90% it goes to an output state that turns it on high. I think some cars do work that way however.

Screen shots of your Fan Controls would be very interesting.

I agree Ted, stock tstat is staying in. Only gets to 228 when idling in traffic and comes down when fans come on. Never saw this before but I also have never driven this car in 112 degree heat before! Maybe I'm just being overly cautious, I think timing at idle is around 19 - 23 degrees. What should it be?

Every combination will require different timing but are you logging this or just looking at the timing tables?

custom o/s also mean an actual VE table and boost control fuel and multiple other advantages!

also our fans are not duty cycle like the vettes,, the tables are set up so when you reach the % threshold they either turn on/off fan 1 or 2,,, the tables make it look that way,, but if you look the % just transfers to the other output state table, 1=on 0=off

Hey Ted, I am just reading timing from an OBD II live data scanner. Tuner will get car back next week for some small tweaks.

Oh Ok, it is best to talk this over with your Tuner.

Ted.
