Roto Fab and Elite Catch can

I am getting ready to purchase a Roto Fab to install on my ZLE.

I have the Elite catch can already on the car. The Elite catch can has a plastic fitting that attaches one of the lines coming from the catch can to the OEM stock air intake elbow.

the Roto Fab unit has a solid (plastic) elbow on the intake.

Those of you who have both installed on your cars, how did you go about installing that plastic fitting on the Roto Fab elbow?

If I remember correctly, there are threads on that plastic fitting that Roto Fab gives you but there is no nut to use to secure the fitting. Plus, I don't think you want to install a nut on that fitting since the nut would be inside the elbow and if it comes loose it would go right into the throttle body.

I'm still rocking the OEM intake airbox/elbow.

I replaced the stock (PCV breather) elbow with a nylon 1/4-18 threaded T to 3/8 hose barb to facilitate the Elite CC. I believe that you should be able to replace the fixed elbow with the T. It should thread right in.

I don't have the RF. If I am wrong, I stand corrected.

I'm not a fan of an open CAI, IMHO, a rubber seal that seats to the underside of the hood kinda defeats the C from the AI.

I'm strongly considering the carbon elite system primarily because it is a closed system and secondly because CF is just so damn sexy.

Good luck with your install. Let us know how it goes.

I think you’re talking about something else waterman.

Im talking about the plastic 90 degree fitting that comes with the Elite Catch Can kit. Circled on the picture attached.

Im guessing I can just drill and tap threads into the Roto Fab air intake elbow. I just want to see if there is a better way of doing it

I just drilled the elbow and threaded the fitting in.

Hey bud, for sure go with the RotoFab, you should go with the Big Gulp if your going to upgrade your engine in the future! Just have to drill a hole in the elbow and thread the elbow in, it's not going anywhere. Just got my car back from a full round of winter upgrades, at 824 RWHP. This thing is a beast now and really, really loud with the AWE system!

We generally just T off the existing line on the intake already. Looks clean, no drilling. Easy. If you need a Rotofab hit us up. We have some great deals running.

When I had my 17 M6.... I bought a couple of CAI's, This is what I learned.
Make SURE the CAI you choose has the "air straightener" in the tube covering the MAF sensor. Makes a difference at cruising speeds.

The RotoFab has a brass insert molded into the the bottom of it which should simplify things for you. They are pipe (npt) threads, so there is no need for a securing nut. I am sure the Elite 90 degree fitting is the same way.

I saw that there is already a hook up on the Roto Fab intake elbow. I just wasn’t sure if I could add another source of vacuum to that fitting.

Now I gotta scour the internet to look for a T fitting what will work there. Any suggestions on where to stay lookinf?

Thank you for all the replies fellers.

Which AWE system did you go with?

At some point down the road the OEM exhaust is coming off my car.

I would ask Elite if he recommends tapping a new hole on the elbow or if putting a tee on the line going into the CAI would make a difference.

Good idea. I’ll reach out to them.

I just went to Home Depot and looked around the plumbing isle. The smallest fittings they have are 1/2 inch so I’ll probably have to order something on line.

I want to use a plastic fitting instead of metal or brass since it’s going into a plastic elbow.

This is my luck. Elite’s account on the forum has been suspended for some reason.

Im gonna have to try their website. Who the hell knows when I’ll get an answer there.

I’ll keep you all posted.

Im surprised this question hasn’t come up before. I wouldn’t want to drill a hole on the Roto Fab intake elbow. It’s an expensive and popular aftermarket part for our cars. If you wanted to sale it later on it would be hard to do so with a hole on the intake elbow.
