That's not road tar. Would be all over the rear quarters or, if just one side ran thru a patch, behind both the front and rear wheels on that side. It wouldn't be on the rear of the car just under the tail light. Looks like pen.

If that was road tar there would have to be some weird ass physics involved for it to get below the tail lights. Matrix road tar!!

Sonja, no need to panic,no one hates you or is jealous.That is with no doubt ROAD TAR.It starts as a little speck, then when you wash your car it streaks,just like the picture shows.I am going to say you are right handed and you were standing facing toward the rear bumper with your butt facing the drivers side,this would make you wash in a clockwise motion hence the shape of the streak.I am no C.S.I. agent but have experienced the exact same thing.And by the way,if I were going to mark up someone's car with a marker a couple little squiggles would be a waste of time!!!P.S. petrolium is part of the make-up of road tar,this is why it showed up blue on your swab.

I hear you man. My car was penned last weekend and I'm just disgusted with these punks and lowlifes having nothing better to do than scratch beatiful cars.

I'm depressed at this point.

That looks like road tar, melted rubber or something similar ... if you warm it up, say using a wet washcloth and then run your hand over it, you will be able to tell ...

had it on my car twice and I had to assume that was it because the car had not been stopped between clean and not clean so no one could have touched it ...
