Car won't drift with traction off?

Wondering if there is a thread open already that I can't find about my issue. If there is please let me know. If not let me know what you think.

When I want to drift on the track my car won't let me do it. I shut off traction and stability control properly. Both of the lights illuminate on the dash but when i try and slide a third light above the other two illuminates and the car tries to correct itself.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

Put more air in your rear tires. Those cars have barely enough power to need traction control on dry pavement. Also you don't have a limited slip rear.

But the car wants to go sideways but the computer controls it. I don't have a problem with power wanting to make it sideways its the computer letting it be sideways.

You have to push and hold your traction control button for 10 seconds to shut it off completely. Then you should hopefully have no computer intervention.

I know I have to do that and the 2 lights illuminate yet it still tries to save the slide.

Keep in mind these cars aren't designed for real drifting. You can do a nice power slide or a donut but they don't have the right gearing (especially automatic LT) to do an extended drift like you see imports doing. It takes a bit of tuning, different rear end, suspension and more to make a car drift sideways the proper way.

The third light you are seeing above the 2 off indicators is just the warning for loss of traction.

I know the car isn't like a import but it still goes sideway. As for the third light i foot to add before while the light flashes the hud says stability control active or something close to that.

You're getting the old one-two punch then: stabilitrack and an open differential. Drop the rear gear ratio to the SS's 3.45:1 (which comes with limited slip) and you can break'em loose nice and easy. The V6 transmission gears are pretty serious low as is, so dropping the rear gear makes a huge difference.

Though you should be careful with that. There are at least a few YouTube videos of Camaro owners blowing their airbags while cutting doughnuts/ drifting.

Just drive your car and stop trying to break it, the next thing you know you will be back here starting a new thread about how airbags went off and not covered under warranty.

^^ I was just thinking the same thing - ppl have by doing auto-x where you don't really drift and pop air bags.

No. When the two lights are illuminated, I believe you are in comp mode which still has some amount of computer control. When you hold them for the 10 seconds the lights are off, but the car has no computer interaction. Thats the way I understand it on the SS, and would assume yours is the same. On a side note, not sure you bought the right car for the level of play you are wanting.
