dont run 89 in an LT1. its made for the good stuff. ur hurting your gas mileage and the motor by running crappy fuel.

I do want to bring up something...Diesel is a full dollar more expensive than reg. gas around here... Deisels are said to have ~30% better efficiency than normal engines, but explain the benifits when the fuel costs 30% more? |

3.69 in Tacoma...yeah Diesel prices are crazy...its more than 4 bucks. what we need to do is get that flex fuel going and tap whats in alaska. from what Ive heard they dont tap it because of the "tree huggers" (no offense to anyone, dont know the PC term) and for some reason it would be relatively expensive to refine it. But Id much rather pay 3+ dollars for oil that we can control production of. Oil companies, gas station owners are making a killing off of all of us. Im really tired of hearing excuses about why prices are raising. The real reason is they know if they refine just enough they can basically sell it at what ever price they want. Is It me of does the price per barrel set a new record everyday!

For what it's worth, I only run on E10. (Because that's the most concentrated ethanol we've got here.) Sunoco puts 10% Ethanol in all their fuels, and around here, they're consistantly 5-10 cents cheaper than everybody else around them (who don't happen to put Ethanol in their fuel). So I might lose a few miles on a tank. I don't care. I can be sure that 10% of my money isn't going overseas. So there. |

Same here...we dont have Sunco, but we do have Arco thats where I gas up. its E10 and 92 is the price of the big chains regular. We need more stations like that Im not giving my hard earned money to the big companies who, from what I can see, are not doing anything to help out. On the news here those other companies are like "we cant control the prices of the gas".
BS! the why does the price at any "big" company change from station to station! all of the chevron's, shell's BP's are 10-30 cents than the ones a few blocks farther. The truth is they dont care about us, america, europe, or anyone else for that matter. simply because they know we dont have a choice but to buy gas! Take a look at they're stocks...they can afford to help out! |

I started a thread with this earlier but it didn't get much attention.
The heating of current shale oil reserves within the US would be enough to supply all of our oil/fuel needs for the next 100 years. The technology exists to heat the shale as well, it just hasn't been seen as economically viable up to this point. Maybe that'll change and we can finally get over our foreign-oil dependency.

(Sorry to go Back to bacK)
I was looking at some articles, shopping for dinner tonight. OK E85 burns just a tad less efficiant than regular Unleaded. That can be fixed I'm sure. There is not enough refinery and E85 production to really calculate how much it would cost per gallon. Now, it would take at least 10 years to get it right according to some articles. I was checking out the prices of corn and I saw that it was 5 bucks for like 4 ears. But that's at a supermarket. I'm worndering, how much would it cost per gallon if mass produced and refined like gas, providing a generous 20% of the country's automotive population 10 years from now. See, I feel gas will be about 5.35 a gallon by that time running at the same efficiancy. If E85 is half that price at 2.75ish and gets you 5 miles less per gallon. Result is you pay .13 per mile in gas vs. .21 per mile in gas. I like them apples.
