2002 35th Anniversary SS

This isn't 5th gen camaro but I have a chance to buy an 02 SS anniversary package convertible in perfect condition 55k miles for $14,000, I was wanting an opinion on if this would be a good collector car that would appreciate if I bought it any thoughts?

Collector car IMHO not really anytime in the near future maybe 30+ years from now. The used market value of very clean 4th Gen's is in the pitts IMHO hell GMMG cars are bringing in low $$$$. IMHO you could get that car for say around $12k but if you plan to take the time to prep her for long term storage for the next 30+ years and you can afford to be out $12-$14k just buying the car know your self out they are nice cars. If you are looking for a collector car look for a GMMG 4th Gen.

If it's a 6 speed, it's probably a good deal. If it's in perfect shape. The mileage says it's probably not going to be a good investment as far as collectability unless you keep it another 20 years or so and put no more miles on it.

People keep thinking 4th and 5th gens are going to be collector's items. Maybe a handful of special editions, or ZL1/Z28 and that all depends, but for the most part, buy a house or land or something if you're looking to make money one day.

Good choice a car is never a good investment unless you have had one from before the 70's and you have kept it from the day you purchased it or you own a rare Exotic car.

I do love that model...and it would be fun to drive...who needs good investments anyways?

Remember, you can live in a car, but you can't drive a house.

Not according to this guy: ""I was drunk last night, crawled home across the lawn. By accident I put the car key in the door lock. The house started up. So I figured what the hell, and drove it around the block a few times. I thought I should go park it in the middle of the freeway and yell at everyone to get off my driveway.'" -- Steven Wright"

To be perfectly honest if i had 14k to play with i would trade in your LS 5th gen and get the SS model(1LE if its in your budget). I have read lots of members buying a 4th Gen thinking it would be fun to own but it ends up just collecting dust because they love driving there 5th Gen so much more.

Not a good investment in terms of financial growth.....

That said: I LOVE to get behind the wheel of my '02 Convertible in the summertime and go for a long cruise in the evening.......

They still turn heads and they still can tear up a road course..........

It will take a lot of time, but IMO it will have potential as a collectible. Consider that it is also harder for modern cars to appreciate in value. With the exception of a one of a kind or one of X type of car, modern cars may be hard pressed to see ten-fold appreciation like muscle cars from the golden era of the late sixties.

Actually, you could. There were five of the 57 Z7D Brickyard Camaros built in 2002 with 6 speeds. The track numbers were 1, 51, 52, 53 and 60.

Last edited by peterpar; 09-20-2013 at 09:46 PM. Reason: Needed to correct the number of 6 speed Z7Ds
