Top Operation Speed Bypass

Hello everyone - Do you know if there is a way to bypass the speed sensor that determines when you can operate your top? I hate having to come to a complete stop before being able to operate it...especially during a freak rainstorm.

It's there so the top doesn't get hurt.
Tops are expensive. Stopping for a minute (admittedly it feels like hours) is free.

My 1990 LeBaron was able to operate while my car was moving. I did that very seldom and usually it was when I was at a stop light waiting for the top to go up when the light would change. I would drive very slowly but at least I was moving. I took every precaution when doing this so I would put my hazzards on and drove very slowly... I'm only talking about 5 seconds.

I agree it would be convenient, but I'm not going to explore this mod. I'm good with stopping for five or thirty seconds, even if it means waiting five minutes in a downpour to find a safe place to stop. For me, the risk isn't worth the reward

I find it very convenient that the gen6 is able to operate the top when you're driving at up to 30mph. Nothing wrong or unsafe with it.

So, if that traffic light gets green, you can still complete the operation without stopping the whole queue behind you.

I would be interested in a bypass. Many convertibles do not need to be at a stop for the top to work. This is a nanny safety switch.

Exactly. I believe this is GMs way of reducing top failures, but IMO, it's an over-protection feature.

Of course, I'd only use it below 10MPH, but just the act of slowing down while being able to operate the top would be immensely helpful.

I agree. I would buy this if somebody made it. It drives me nuts when you are lowering the top - if you move an inch it stops. Sucks when you are trying to do it at a light or something.

I wonder if it is in the programming or if it is hard wired somewhere?

I always put my tonneau cover on, so it'll take me a good few minutes to get my top up.

Kind of the reason I will not put my top down unless I absolutely know it will not rain. I still wish the motor was faster and 'one touch'.

The vehicle speed is provided over serial data to the module that controls the top. There is no way to block a serial data signal and still have anything function. The only way would be to reprogram the module to have a new speed threshold, 3 kph is the current speed but that is about 1.5 mph so its very easy to go over that.

It may be year specific. I can actuate the movement of the top, up or down, and start driving with continuing to hold button for up or down. As long as you don't dart off and keep your speed at a roll, I don't see an issue with it. I've been doing it for months now with no issues.
