How about:
LT - l4turbo
RS - 3.6di
SS - L76
Z/28 - LS3
ZL1 - LSA/3/X/9 SC
Is that too much to ask? We can lose the LT, now is it too much...

I hear you....but you missed my point that it became a "fact" in that thread and this one. Grrrrrrrr....... It was just frustrating. However my comments do not reflect any animosity to Shawn. I'm grateful for any info he's been willing to share.

I'm the guy wanting the base V8 (I really have no wish for 500+ hp, or the supercharger). To me it was important what they call it. It won't change my mind to buy one, however emotionally it would be a blow to find out that the Z28 is top dog.

As you know I'm 39. I was a huge fan of the 3rd generation (not a fan of the 4th at all) as it came along right about time I started driving. The Z/28 was the thing to get and it was within reach. The IROC was top dog, but it was still a Z. Fast forward to today and it's an approaching middle aged man with the dough to get any car I want wanting to relive a bit of my past.

The SS was really no part of that. It was pre-my time (not that I don't love the 1st generations) or post those teenage years and as such just doesn't hold that nostalgia for me.

As I said it's a highly emotional thing for some of us. People younger or older than myself probably aren't going to have the same issue.

what he said---except 39 being middle age---push that back till 55, nice round #.
The Z/28 was the thing to get, and almost in reach of min wage drivers...
That would be nice, the Z-- not the min waqe

Exactly....it was THE thing to get. I could get the top dog, however being the baddest, MOST, BEST, etc isn't why I'm buying the Camaro. In fact, I'd buy the V6, except that it isn't a V8 and doesn't sound like a V8.

It really is a pure emotional thing for me.

I dont know much but that seems right. My poster here in my room of a Z06 (505 hp) has 1/4 mile time of 11.7. Seems damn good to me considering the camaro's weight compared to the Z06's.

I'm shooting for a base V8 so it would be nice to have a 430HP 'Maro for under 30,000!!!

That is hilarious...
I want the V8, a base--5.3, 5.7, 6.0, I would like it to have the type of power the 02 Z/28 had--or more.
I will consider the 300hp V6, I doubt that it will provide the torque and sound that will stir the insides like my Z/28 did in 02.
When you turned the key and the exhaust just said "I am ready, let's go haul @$$" and then the slightest pressure on the gas pedal told you; "seriously, @$$ is going to be hauled now! "
I hope the 3.6 will provide that, but mainly I hope GM provides an 'entry level' V8 comparable to the LS1. NOT to prevent the more power hungry enthusiasts from having their 400hp OPTIONS as well.

I definitely do not remember the 60's; I just did the google...found the link.
What did a ZL1 actually have for hp? more than a 302 (Z/28) (my guess)
What did it do w/better tires...more than a Z/28, unless there were turns.
Gas mileage ....you mean Gallons per Mile? a lot.
HP ratings were definitely subjective back then, 425= 700+ on the hemi depending on the source.
13 second 1/4 was good...13mpg was too, a little more than 13 cents per gallon like maybe 50 cents....
Now we have, more power AND double the mpg, unfortunately 10x the price per gallon.
My intent was only to express that the Z/28 was not the topdog: for drag racing... the SS was, except for the $800,000 ZL1 which few knew about and fewer could afford....More people afforded the Z/28 with the smaller, lighter engine/ handling package. I just do not want the Z/28 to be relegated to --or elevated to the level of the ZL1 -- for price and availability.
Having bought a '69 Z/28 new in 1969, I can add some info for you. In '67-'69 SS Camaros were as abundant as fleas on a dog in mid-summer, you saw them everywhere, not many people on the street took a second look at a SS Camaro. In those same years Z/28s at times were rare and almost unknown (call that '67 mid year release) and by '69 everyone was talking and asking questions about Z/28s. 1967 production SS-34,411, Z/28-602, 1968 SS-30,695, Z/28-7,199, 1969 SS-36,309, Z/28-20,302, so the totals for those three model years were SS-101,415 and Z/28-20,302. All of the factory SS were one of four engines 350cid 295HP, or 396cid at 325,350,375HP (this of course does not include the dealer installed 427cid engines nor the 69 ZL1 factory installed engines in 1969), all Z/28s had the 302cid most were 290HP (there were some purchased with the dual four barrel but those were shipped in the trunk and dealer installed). My '69 Z/28 with a single Holley 800cfm 4v got 4-6 mpg around town depending how much you kept your foot in it (which was often as I was 20 years old) and 12-14mpg on the highway if you were extremely gentle. Sunoco 260 was around 36-40 cents a gallon, five dollars worth got you through a weekend nicely. As far as performance, I never had problems drag racing 350/295, 396/325, and 396/350 HP, 396/375 could be difficult unless the driver was not good, never ever saw a ZL1 on the road but I would not have even attempted that in a drag situation. None, and I mean none of the SS could stay with a Z/28 if curves were involved. Price wise, most SS and Z/28 were close in price except the fully loaded SS models that had AT, AC, vert as those options were not available on the Z/28. Had I wanted a drag machine I would have bought the SS 396/375, but I wanted all around handling with a great engine package, so I opted for the Z/28.

Let see, my '69 Z/28 was about a dollar a pound, $3,385 (actually sticker was a little higher than that, but I got a good deal) doubled would be $6,770, tripled would be $10,155. I don't think Chip Foose sells them quite that cheap, even used/restored at Barrett-Jackson is usually over 100k. Wish I still had my '69!! :upset:

2x triple the sticker would be impossible to find....

So, if the 2010 Camaro price is 10 times the '69...how about 'average pay'
back in 69? comparable?
