Mods vs keeping it stock

It seems like everyone is either fully into mods or believes in keeping their Camaro (or other muscle/pony car) stock (Oh yeah, except for those waiting for the waranty to be up, then mods). I am torn. Part of me wants to make my Camaro uniquely mine (when I can afford to). The other part wants to leave perfection alone & leave it stock. My husband is fully in the stock camp. Anything I mention doing he says "leave it stock, it will be worth more". I'd love to hear you guys discuss the pros & cons of each & your reasons.

So many are produced that the "it will be worth more" comment isn't a really valid one.

Point of view from someone who's Camaro was anything but stock:

The good:
The car is unique
It's your personality reflected in the overall look
It's a head turner even more than stock is
It's fun

The bad:
The cost of modding...plus once you start, you never want to stop
It's never done and I don't care what anyone says...you always want more!
Value of a modded car is typically 10% of the cost associated (minus labor!) if you find the one person looking for what you have

I know...you plan to keep it forever. I said the same thing yet I've sold two modded cars to get the latest and greatest thing...

It's a tough choice to stay stock or mod what you have. Bit of advice, check with you insurance and see if they will cover what you will mod. Wheels are typically covered but don't expect much more than 30% of their value if a total loss. Performance mods are rarely if ever covered unless you get a special policy and then you might be limited on miles driven, etc.

Good luck in your choice on what to do...it's a tough one!

Its not like modded cars are going to cost LESS... the problem is that no one is going to pay what you "INVESTED" ( more like wasted ) on it.

So.. 10k car = 10k car
10k car + 10k mods = 12k car...

Mods are good Pretty soon these cars will be at every light so I want to stand out a little bit. I think aftermarket wheels are a must and change the look of the car completely.

I'm trying to limit myself to somewhat minor 'reversible' mods and keeping the OE parts,
mostly simple performance enhancers and a few cosmetic mods that I can do myself.

I believe in keeping my camaro stock yet I want it to be and I always see one of my friends walkin around int he area and when I drive by I see them and of course they see my camaro but they don't know its mine. So Ive begun to mod it a little so when I drive by some of my friends who r walkin around and they see my camaro they know its me. But no performance mods I only plan on modding it cosmetic wise. that way its unique yet under the hood its completely stock.

cold air intake is usually very reversible and helpful, while being not overly expensive. oh and they make the sweet sounds of the car even more beautiful.

i think some mods are more intensive then others, for example a muffler delete. so to answer the OP question, mod what you can reverse if you're worried about it too much

but as people said, leaving it stock will soon mean, "oh it's just another camaro"

If you have "money to burn" and want to be unique you Mod and have the best of the latest greatest. If not, you still have one of the best sports cars on the planet

I think I have settled on all of my mods having GM part numbers. So if they don't make it or it isn't worth getting from them I skip it.

I may be a bit influenced by the color and the package of mine though.

If I had an LS or a SS in a standard color with no package it would have at least an aftermarket exhaust, a CAI.

I can't leave anything alone. My car is a week old and I already have ARH long tubes, ARH catted x pipe, Magnaflow axle back, Fastlane CAI, Eibach springs, Barton shifter, plus a heap of other performance and cosmetic stuff coming in soon. As much as I love the Camaro in stock form, I want to make it better, and also make it my own.

This man right here...he speaks the truth. All in all, do whats right for you. Its my opinion that the only cars that gain anything from being competely stock are very, VERY low vin numbers.
