Any procedures need to be done after changing other than maybe a few figure 8s in both directions?

I put royal purple in mine and it made noise until I went back with the correct GM fluid as per the pic above.

Has anyone used the redline heavy shockproof I had it in a previous car it was pretty good, also had a diff service center put it in for me and they were very impressed with the visual stickyness etc of the oil.

Did a search on those part nos, and the 88862624 shows up in the GMPartsDirect web site
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=88862624 , but not the 88862625 part number. Interestingly, I did find this while doing a search on the second part number. " Question: When I take off from a stop in my '02 Corvette, I hear a popping noise. I was at a Corvette show and ran into a guy who had the same problem. He said that the dealer had installed a new type of rear-axle fluid in his C6. Can I use this fluid in my C5, and will it help with the popping noise? Mark Via the Internet Answer: General Motors did release a new rear-axle fluid in early 2008. The new fluid is called Dexron LS Gear Oil 75W90, and it carries part number 88862624 in the U.S. (PN 88862625 in Canada). This fluid can be used in all Corvettes from '97 through current production. You'll need approximately three quarts to perform the change. Read more: http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_09...#ixzz2wEYpztpt So, is one a US part number and the other a Canadian part number?? |

I believe there are two part numbers, one for Canada and one for the USA. First dealer I contacted was useless and didn't know what oil to use and asked why I was doing it as it wasn't in the FSM yet. It's easy to do and GM made it nice with two plugs in the diff, one to fill and one to drain.
This is a cheap and easy thing to do and as far as using other brands besides GM I was not able to find a cross reference for the oil we stock at my shops so I just stayed with GM and it has been quiet and smooth since.

I have drained my transmission and even with the countless 1/4 mile runs and road course action, it was still cherry red and had no burnt odor. If you aren't racing the car, the transmission fluid will be fine for a while. Nice thing is that our transmission pans have a drain plug. To refill the thing you must use a long tube or pump system as the fill hole is not in the easiest location to access. It takes 6.3 qts to fill it. Make sure the new fluid is Dexron 6 approved. Not all fluids are Dexron 6 approved. Mobil has its own fluid for Dexron 6 vehicles as Mobil 1 is not approved.
