Negotiating Purchase Price When Ordering
This may be a dumb question but Im just curious. I want to basically go to my local dealer and order a new 2014 camaro but was wondering if the final price was negotiable or basically since its one you're ordering and not one off the lot then there was no negotiating.
I only ask because I got my 2010 2SS for like $37,800 but the sticker was a little over $42,000. Im trying to decide if Im going to have to wait until i find one i want on a lot or just order in advance. My last Camaro was totaled and Im now in a BMW 750I and i HATE HATE HATE it! I need my american muscle back. :-/ |

I have ordered three gen 5 Camaros. Just go in and negotiate like you normally would. The only thing that changes is the incentives at the time of delivery. I am not sure if dealers even have the pricing for the 14's yet. Good luck.

It is most certainly negotiable.

In my experience, there is less room to negotiate on an ordered car as opposed to dealer stock. However, this doesn't mean you can't negotiate at all. I was able to talk my dealer down to invoice + incentives which bring it to about $2,500 under invoice now. You can probably get them below invoice depending on how much volume they push and how smooth of a talker you are.
Long story short, yes you can negotiate. Just keep in mind, you will probably have more negotiating power a few months after the 2014s start shipping than right away. |

My order was 300 below invoice before any incentives or rebates.

Negotiate firmly and fairly. "You can get more of what you want with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone." - Al Capone.

So are you to try to negotiate under the invoice or the MSRP ?

aim for invoice price. I got my ZL1 for 55,250, according to edmunds estimates, thats a couple hundred over invoice. Be firm and let them know you are a real buyer, but that you're buying on YOUR terms. Not theirs.

I contacted every Chevy dealer within a 100 mile radius via email and asked for their best price for a Camaro with x, y, and z options and explained that the lowest price gets my business. Most responded with "come in and we'll give you a great deal" or "call me, I have a few questions." No, I will not come in to negotiate (thus the contact via email) and no, I will not call to answer questions because you have all the information you need to earn my business. I was on the verge of ordering through Becky when a dealer offered a price within my target. I purchased my last 3 vehicles this way.

i ordered to have a vehicle built, and bought off the lot, and in both instances, i was able to negotiate a good deal. it dont make a difference if you order it, you can still get as good as a deal, since they wont have to store the vehicle on the lot.
