Tach Red Line 1LE
Ok, I searched around and didn't see anything addressing 1LE max rpm.
Why does my tachometer red line start at 6250 rpm? LS3 is 6600 right? Perhaps that's how all SS tachs display. |

You will always be moving reving up quicker than the mechanical tach will tell you. This way if you shift before the redline you will be at 6500-6600 since it can not keep up.

Probably is a safehaven fthe factory so we dont overrev these engines. The only way to really tell about the true redline is put the car on the dyno. My 2002 SS had a tach redline of 5500, but after dynoing the car, we found out that it made power up to 6400. After the tune, we set the rev limiter at 6300 to keep the valvetrain safe. |

The Corvette tachometer with the same engine has a redline showing at 6500 rpm. Why would the Camaro be 6250? This makes no sense.

what difference does it make? It probably has a different tune. I can set my rev limiter to 7000 with my tuner, but i don't because I don't want engine problems. My car pulls hard at around 4500-5000 so i don't push it.

If you are shifting at 5000, you are giving away a lot of performance. Michael |

GM may have the tach red line in the camaro marked starting at 6250 but as you can see in this video in setting 2:58 VIR track time the GM hot shoes was banging the gears off at 6500 RPM I think the stock rev limiter is set at around 6600 RPM.

I usually shift right after 6K on the HUD. I have bounced the rev limiter once in 10,000 miles on my LS3 and man it made me feel like a fool.

That guy is a good driver. He clicks off shifts right at 6500 like clockwork. I wonder if they have shift lights, because it looks like the tach is blocked by the steering wheel from the driver's view (dumb design). He maxes out the G's in braking and cornering consistently, too. It's also interesting that the digital speed readout sometimes reads lower than the analog speedometer, particularly during deceleraton. Michael Last edited by Michael2000; 05-16-2013 at 09:06 AM. |
