Sounds like the skip shift. If you shift at too low of an rpm it won't let you into second...you have to go to third. I read somewhere here it was built in to eliminate paying gas guzzler tax.

Actually it is 4th gear you have to go to. I thought it was higher RPM but I may be wrong there. OP if this is what is happening to you it will display on the DIC letting you know to go to 4th gear.

However I have been having an occasional issue with mine not going into second gear but it only happens when down shifting. I have been told it culd be the synchro. When I take it to the dealer they can never get it to do it for them. I have to shift to another gear and then try second again or put in neutral and let off the clutch PIA when it does it!!!

yea i've had the same problem, scared the shit outta me the first time, was braking to turn and tried to downshift into 2nd and all i heard was an awful grinding .. i was going too slow(10 mph) to be in 4th gear though so that doesnt make sense.

Mine doesn't grind but it won't go into 2nd for anything when it does it....it wouldn't be skip shift when downshifting.

OP, sorry didn't see you had the V6....maybe it is the syncro Take it to the dealer, hopefully they can duplicate the problem and get it fixed ASAP for ya....

Going into 2nd gear has always been a bit tough on mine. That's the only gear I've ever had an issue with.

As for the clutch, mine's been about the same since day 1 (13.5k now). I have noticed that I don't have as hard of a time getting into 2nd if I push the clutch all the way to the floor. That last 1/2" or so seems to be key in getting 2nd gear shifts to go smoothly.

I'm going to mention it on my next service visit and see if there is any kind of adjustment that can be done.

So much for hoping there was an adjustment that could be done. :(

Took the tech for a test drive yesterday morning and explained what the shifter felt like going into 2nd. He hopped in to give it a shot and immediately managed to grind the gears going into 2nd.

"Yep, I'd say there's a problem here..." Well, duh!

He tried a second time but backed off the shift when he felt the resistance going into 2nd. He called the GM engineers yesterday to see if they could offer any assistance in figuring out the problem. Call was returned this morning....
  • Known issue with the V6-M6 transmission.
  • Problem is likely with the 1,2 syncro.
  • Pull transmission, tear down, inspect and replace parts as needed.
  • Out of commission until Monday at least, depending on parts availability.

Obviously, the delay in building the V6 M6 Camaros last spring didn't matter much, since they originally held up production for issues that people are still seeing. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=433444

Will update once they tear into the tranny and figure out what needs to be done.
