Dealer installed stripes
The fiasco that it is. My dealer does not have a body shop. I show up at the 9oclock appt. 2 weeks ago at a quarter till. At ten he's still not there. Mind you, this is with a detailer of a brother of the dealer. I am outta there. So I'm left with the leg work to find someone to do it. Shearer Chevrolet in Burlington. Job was done this morning. In a little over an hour. Dirt under the trunk stripe. The right side of the hood stripe is 1/4" off center. Bubbles and imperfections galore. I'm told to wait a week for the bubbles to find there way to where bubbles go. Fine. What is not fine is stripes laid over dirt and a blow and go job without total attention to getting the damn thing straight. They didn't sell the car so, oh well for me.
GM pay's 1.5 hours to install this package. It should take AT LEAST twice that to do it right. Maybe less if your awesome. Moral of the saga. Let the dealer handle everything. The fewer people you have to yell at or worse the better. |

Sorry for the mess. My dealer farmed it out. I didn't like one of the hockey stripes. They bought another set and they put one section on. Better, but not perfect.
I'm living with it, about 1/16" off.

I did mine myself because I knew nobody would be as careful as I was- it really wasn't that hard. No bubbles or trash in mine- well, 2 small bubbles at the front edge of the thin stripe on the hood.
It sucks that GM didn't do this on all of the cars (install the stripes). For those that DIY, the trick to the hood stripe was to line up the back edge- the front will fall in the right place.

Slacker? Troubled? Not if you have the patience to do that hood. I have no problem with tools. Leaning over a hood milking soapy water, I'm outta here. Like tinting windows. I will leave those two to those that can. And do. Well.
Thanks guy's. With any luck the next time will be right. |

I am going to tell them to take their time, I will pay a little extra to avoid mistakes. 1.5 hours doesn't like enough time to me, maybe the they felt rushed?

We have a guy that does NOTHING but stripes.....Not a wanna-be body shop striper.
You'd be SURPRISED how much time it takes him......much less than 1.5 and NO FLAWS. But it's all he's done for 20 years! |
