If you can get the 7th off (a friday) that would be a great day. I'm going then. Being a friday there will be less cars on the track which makes it even more fun.

I am signed up for HPDE 2. I have a friend I am bringing, he has a 2009 Nissan GT-R, not sure if he will play or not. My car is getting the Summer tires put back on, the oil changed, and inspected for the track as I type. Looking forward to meeting any and all of you.

Brent and Justin, great meeting you both, and good to see you again, Mike! I had so much fun!!!!
Mike, I talked with the photographer at the end of the day, and he said he got some good shots of both of us during the hyperdrive. They should be on line Tuesday, I'll post the link!

I will most definitely be doing this again!!

It was a good time. Nice to finally see what my car will do on a track.
The photographer showed a pic of my car - looks awesome, and it will be fun to download and see them.
I was glad to have had some other Camaros show, Saturday was just me and my friend with his GT-R.

I am tentatively planning on going to the Portland NASA event. Anyone else?

It sounds like all were having a very good time. What was required for novices at the track? I assume there is a drivers meeting and is there any ground school? Car inspections? Is there access to any instructors or is it a solo day?

They do require an inspection. According to the NASA website, if you get the inspection done pre-track (at a site listed on their page), it's free but inspection at the track is $40. I had mine done Thursday for free, but Mike had his at the track, and they didn't charge him. A Snell approved (SA2010) helmet is required. There was a driver's meeting/class before getting behind the wheel, they didn't go into much depth. And instructor was assigned to each person in HPDE-1 (novice), and the instructor rode along during each session. There were four 20-minute sessions throughout the day (plus a couple of hyperdrives, one slow, one at speed, and if your instructor said it was OK, you could go alone on that), and the instructor graded your performance in 8 categories, and determined if you're ready to move up to HPDE-2 (still considered novice, but no instructor required). After each session, there was a "de-briefing" to go over stuff with instructors as a group.

I learned a lot, it was really fun!

That's shortly after Sturgis, doubt I'll go - I'll not only be broke, but tired of driving. (wait - did I really say that? I don't know if I'll ever tire of driving!!) But I'm most likely going to do the NASA event in September at Pacific Raceways.

Thanks for the info. I am signed up for the Porsche Driver Education day at the ridge. It is similar to what you were doing. We will be running on the 25th. This is something I have wanted to do for some time so I am really looking forward to it.
