Just want a round shift knob!
I've done a ton of searching but haven't found a round shift knob (black or white) with the shift pattern that mates to the stock shifter shaft. I don't want the hassle, expense, or rattle issues of going to a whole aftermarket shifter. I just want a knob!
I know it is a press fit and would even entertain cutting some threads with a die but it seems the Hurst knobs have a 3/8th thread and the stock is around 1/2 in. Seems like too much material to remove with a die. Any thoughts/suggestions? Maybe an opportunity for some business! Thanks |

The one that comes with the Hurst short-shifter is white and supposedly connects to the stock shifter. I have one if you want it.

This is the ONLY ball that will mount directly to the factory shifter with out going to a short throw shifter. No shift pattern though.

you have 2 options... 1 is ready the other in about a week... the first option makes the height no taller than stock and requires you to modify your stalk a bit...VERY easy takes about 5 minutes with a saw or dremel tool... option 2 will go right on sotck but will sit too high in my opinion...i dont like it. stay tuned they look GREAT!!!! george |

ok here you go...
first option which to me is the only REAL way to go if you absolutely do not want to change out your shifter but want the classic retro look... you have to modify your stock handle by basically chopping off the top key cut area of the shaft...you can do this quite quickly with either a dremel tool or metal saw...you dont have to be exact just get close to the end of the key cut as shown. then just make sure you deburr the shaft. this allows the ball to sit basically the same height as stock... i will be making one that is taller that you can put on the stock shifter with NO mods but i just think it will be so tall it will not shift well at all!!! ok here are some pics and of course you can use ANY of our shift balls you like... regards george |

Wouldn't it be easier to just make knobs fit the stock slip-fit shaft ? Why is that so difficult ?
