Arrow Cammed

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if those with cammed Camaros had to do anything before handc(or after) prior to getting it cammed? I was looking to get my SS cammed but I'm a little hesistant. How has it improved performance? Also, do I need to get additional parts?

Read read read. Hundreds of posts here. There are always extras when you mod. At minimum, a cam will require hardened push rods, valve springs, headers and a tune. And the little extras like oil change and coolant. And, if you have an auto transmission, you'll likely need a torque converter.

This - I spent 6 months reading and found a ton of new information to consider all the time. The biggest thing is find a quality shop that you will have do the work and tune and figure out what they have experience doing - you don't want to be anyone's guinea pig

Here is a list of extra parts I got:

Trunion upgrade
BTR Chromoly push rods
BTR Titanium dual springs, seat, locks, retainers
BTR SLR lifters and trays
3 bolt timing gear
C5R timing chain
LS2 chain tensioner
Melling high volume oil pump
LS9 head gaskets
valley cover w/gasket
front timing cover w/gasket
Circle D torque converter
ADM transmission cooler
ARP head bolts, cam bolts, and crank bolts
Cam Motion camshaft

I think this is my whole list. This is a LS3 conversion too, but as you see its not just pull cam out and put new one in. All in all the parts ran me about $2500+

Berns, why switch to the LS2 chain tensioner, is there that much of a benefit or it is required due to the LS3 conversion?

The LS3 tensioners have broken a bunch of times. I switched to the LS2 damper as well.

Yes lol, lots of parts needed, do some research, call a shop.

But its a great idea, a good cam improves performance across the band, and is a lot of fun to drive/listen to.

I did my cam 2 months ago after a few months of searching I decided to go with the night fury cam from lethal. And the shop I had it installed put on BTR components for everything else valvetrain related. I gained a total of 55rwhp and only 20 tq my final dyno was 455/417 on a ls3.
