Question Question about bluetooth

Is the bluetooth connected to OnStar so I'll eventually have to pay for it? Or does it not have anything to do with OnStar?

Not having to hold your phone when you receive or make a call is great and if I don't have to pay for that, great. If I do, then how much is it? Anyone know?

It has nothing to do with OnStar. It uses your cell phone's minutes as it uses the cell phone to place calls.

Can I use my voice to make calls, though?

Such as "dial" "person's name" etc etc?

Bluetooth is a very low cost, short-range wireless link for cell-phones, MP3's, etc.

OnStar is a high cost, long-range, multi-standard communication system.

The bluetooth processor/antenna that allows your phone to connect to the car is part of the physical OnStar unit in your car. BUT no OnStar is not required to use the bluetooth, it operates independently of your Onstar service/subscription.

If you chose to remove your OnStar unit for some reason there is a product called CoStar to replace it that returns the Bluetooth functionality to the system. Check the Electronics forum here to find out more.

Getting to Know Your 2011 Camaro

BLUETOOTH
® SYSTEM

The in-vehicle Bluetooth system allows users with a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone to make and receive hands-free calls using the vehicle’s audio system, microphone and controls.
The Bluetooth-enabled cell phone must be paired with the in-vehicle Bluetooth system before it can be used in the vehicle. Not all phones will support all functions.
Bluetooth audio streaming is also available with devices that support the following Bluetooth profiles: A2DP version 1.2 and AVRCP version 1.0.
Visit
www.gm.com/bluetooth for more information.

Yes, but you have to add people's names to your car's "audio" phone book. It won't recognize names stored in your phone's phone book. You can access your phone's phone book via the "Phone" menu on the head unit though. The phone book is periodically downloaded via bluetooth, you just can't speak those names. To speak a name, you have to program your voice to that name and #.

And be careful, if your paired-to-the -Camaro cell phone is not near the car, and you try to make a call with it, the system will ask you if you want to use ONSTAR. ONSTAR = PAY EXTRA.

My system acts a little weird. Sometimes it will not recognize my cell phone and ask if I want to use ONSTAR. I stop the process. I pull my cell phone out, dial a number, then the system picks it back up for hands free talking.

If your phone supports it, I'd recommend using voice pass thru. Assuming you've already paired, hit the Bluetooth button on the steering wheel, then say 'Bluetooth'. After she responds, say 'voice'. It will then pass your voice commands to your phone. This works great with my iPhone. It's voice processor is very good.

Cool Info!!! I did know it could do this. I use my Android Incredible w/bluetooth and I can get my MP3, Phone, Maps directions all over the stock speakers. One of the coolest features this radio has! I am going to start using voice commands now...... maybe even program a few name/numbers instead of using the phone's book. Anyone know how to always bypass Onstar? Maybe pulling the fuse?
