Yes.

I'm thinking if there was a Z/28 coming soon we would have seen some spy shots of something. If there were any external modifications, they would have been covered up. If not, they would still have to test the car. I haven't heard or seen anything about a strange Camaro being run around a test track or anything.

I honestly believe this is in fact being tested but it is definitely like a chess match with Ford trying to keep them one move ahead. They are getting a whole new car coming up and like the Boss leguna seca and the gt500 all have their better HP numbers but the camaro still beats them or keeps pace because of poor braking or IRS handling and that should all be taken care of with their new car. They are also trying at this point to keep the spotlight on the new corvette set to debut in a few months. GM doesn't need hype to sell Z/28's they just need to be on the lots. I can assure you GM knows this and my belief is they are waiting to see they other players move this time before a release to keep the sales even more sweet and away from the competitor and spoil their debut.

I get what you are saying but still, you think there would be something leaked out.

I would normally agree they there should be some sort of leak, but just like the LT1 motor debut, GM is doing a whole lot better at keeping things under wraps these days to prevent spoiling the party

agreed, could be tight security without planned "spy shots" ,..either way I feel it's gonna be a late winter/early spring big city car show reveal....or nada.....until the next model.

Yeah, they did a good job keeping the lid on the LT1 though it is easier to hide and engine than whole car. Haha

The 5.5L is only a racing displacement. GM is sticking with the 5.3L and 6.2L for now. The 6.2L is expected to make 450 HP so I doubt a 5.3L would make anywhere near that.

....if not a showing by April, there won't be one at all I would wager for the end of the C5 run.

If not in time for the 6th Gen Mustang, I'd think the 6th Gen will be the return of the Z/28. Hopefully by that time GM will have developed some serious performance parts for the Alpha and a few more Gen V engines to power the new Camaro.

Look for it in a 6th Gen only. Forget 5th Gen as they're already talking about 6th Gen for 2015. I expect a Z-28 to be out towards the middle of 2015 or beginning of 2016

It's gonna be interesting how they build the Z/28 (if they do) in the 6th Gen. Hopefully GM has been working on some different variations of the 5th Gen engines to power the Z/28, SS and various Corvette models.

If GM decides to wait for the 6th Gen for the Z to return, they better not drop the ball with it. Leaving it out for the 5th Gen would be a disappointment so they better make it's return worthwhile.

I see that problem too, it they release it in the 5th gen they can build upon it an what they've learned, consumer input blah blah..but waiting for the 6th gen people are gonna be a lot more critical of it and hopefully not saying "we waited, for this?"

It's a tough situation. With the 5th gen, they have the developments in suspension and power train to make a great Z/28 but with the 6th gen they have a clean slate but not necessarily the experience to make the car worthy of the name.
