V8 Auto Test Drive

This morning I went to my local dealer and test drove a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS. The car had 36,000 miles on it, only a couple thousand more than my V6, and after driving it around I was mostly disappointed in it. The car feels like it sits higher (it wasn't the seat level) and is heavier. The throttle was sluggish compared to my V6 and even though it is a faster and more powerful car I felt mine was quicker. I don't know if it was just me but my car has minimal performance mods as of now but I felt like at least that V8 in particular let me down. Not sure if it was just that car or what but based on that I would just keep my v6. Not much of an improvement.

It should ride lower stock vs stock v6. Possible it needs a fuse pull. Other than that no it's not a mind blowing difference in power feel but make no mistake it is faster in every aspect.

Based on Car and Driver's test, the L99's come in at 13.1 in the 1/4 and I've seen some low 12 sec cars with bolt ons. Car and Driver also tested a 2010 V6 and got 14.5 in the 1/4. Heads up, I would call that an a$$ kicking.. Like mentioned above, it is probably running on some bad gas.

Yeah that might have been it. I did my research last night and saw the time differences in the 1/4 and 0-60. I wanted the test drive the corvette they had there just for kicks but it was getting detailed.

Also, did you know about driving it in sport mode or not? It shifts and moves a lot faster than when in regular D.

I'm still uncertain, I know I won't be getting that V8 for sure, the interior wasn't kept very clean. Also I wouldn't mind going with the Inferno Orange or Synergy Green colors instead of the black I have now or the one at the dealership.

I did start the driving in D then switched to Sports Mode to see the difference. I also had the traction control off.

Perhaps that one was beaten. If the interior isn't good, expect the same all the way around. Cheapo gas, dirty filter, mediocre oil.... Try out another!

Sounds like what could have been the problem. I'll try another for sure!

ryanb910,

Glad to hear about you test driving the V8 and definitely continue to explore your options with different Camaros. There might be an SS out there that fits you perfectly. We hope you are enjoying your 1LT! Keep us updated on the process.

That's what i originally thought when i first test drove an ss convertible coming from my 2lt.. Then i test drove a manual transmission ss with an cai and exhaust. i ended up walking out of the dealership mid oil change with my 2011 ss that had 900 miles on it. Those mods really opened the engine up and it was a whole different monster from when i initially test drove the ss!

Go test drive a manual. Get in first gear and accelerate slowly to around 3500 - 4000 rpm and punch it. Let us know if it feels different. Or just tach it up and drop that mother...LS3 FTW
