In my case, I feel like the stocks would have failed also, but the comp washer helped keep the bearings captive, vs the stock where they would've been all over the place.

So stock will fail less, but if they do, you'd be in more trouble, than with a failed comp rocker that was caught early-ish, lol.

How so? The stock ones that do fail, the bearings fall down to the pan, come out with an oil change, and you move on. I haven't seen one cause colateral damage Most people don't even notice until they find a needle bearing in the oil during a change.

The new BTR trunion upgrade I put in uses the same bearings I believe, but the c-clip is much beefier and completely covers the outside of the bearing, so unless the clip comes off, there's no chance of the needle bearings getting out.

Well what about aftermarket rocker arms? Seeing these trunion upgrade failures is making me very nervous about doing it to my stockers.

Honestly I think its just freak accidents sometimes. A bad batch or something. I know my car didn't have oiling issues.

If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't have even done anything different from the start. However, with that being said, after I re-coop some funds, I may switch to some Jesel rockers and go solid roller.

What were the signs or noises to make you check? Or was this unknown?

Any info on the set-up / miles on trunions?

I've been through a quite a few lifter, cam and rocker failures so the sound is familiar. Usually I start to notice a slight change in exhaust note at idle, that's an indicator, then the ticking.

My current set up is GPI SS4 cam, milled heads/ported, comp short travel lifters, 3600 converter.

This set up has about 39,000 on it, total miles is 109,000. Most of my failures were with my previous set up TSP vvt3 cam LS3 lifters, lost two cams and several lifters. Since the GPI cam and short travel comp lifters all the failures have been rockers.

Right now I keep a few stock rockers on the shelf, when a comp fails I pop in a stock one, seriously considering bushings this winter.

Also, I have 391's in it, this failure I noticed the morning after a 133 mile trip at highway speeds.

Thanks for sharing the info... I committed myself to change valve springs and trunions every year weather they need it on not. Make me feel better at night. For a few hundred bucks its well worth the alternative. I have the SS3 in mine M6 car. I don't kill it every day but when I do I see +7000 in the logs frequently.... Thanks again.

After my comp trunion find during a check (found metal in the oil and almost all the trunions worn after 8K miles) I reverted back to a set of fresh stock rockers. And I take the time to pull the valve covers about every 3K miles to check to metal in the pockets of the heads. so far so good.

What valve spring are you using?

Yours is the old comp version isn't it? Let me know if you would like a revised version. It is a less aggressive jerk on the ramp rate, and should keep the valvetrain more quiet and durable.
