I was about to say the same thing .

Good luck with your project. My late uncle use to do this alot in his garage instead of a shop. One time he blocked off a section of the yard and painted the car outside in a home made tent like booth with no issues.

Teasers.......

Its time for a lunch snack and a few teaser shots for desert. Began the day layer covering the areas that varying colors will be applied in each step, and have just sprayed three coats of the Platnium on the center stripe and man did it lay nicely ( no major goofs yet) lol.............alls on track with the paint application, and the SOM sections are next. The color combo should be a compliment to the cars lines ..........I can hardly wait myself to see the end results. Updates through out the day...........granted all continues on good order.

Neat -- Can't wait to see it finished....(what color is SOM?? Am I being retarded asking this?)

I couldn't imagine doing this myself! Of course, since you have the tools I imagine you've had some practice...

I would like to see the stripes not get so narrow on the front lower fascia. But so far I like what I see. Nice work!

Stripes are gonna look good once they are done...I agree with Paul SS though, I would like to see the stripes remain the same distance apart all the way down the front fascia.

I would imagine that taking up the booth area and the need to move from one shop project to another between steps on my car runs the cost up a bit.........

Yes a minor clitch could happen but if you take your time..The old measure twice/cut once analogy applies. The wonders of modern two stage finishes are they are forgiving to some degree and issues are easily correctable. The professionals make boo boo's too.........................

In as far as doing the project myself, I already own the compressor, the automotive spray guns and the basic tools required to take on and complete the project. If you were to acquire them just to paint your car and were budget minded, you could purchase sufficient equipment for a sum around $800-$1200 depending on your choices and whats available in your area.

1. Compressor/hoses/ power cord -$450-$600
2. Spray Gun/s - $250-$400
3. Buffer-$100-$150
4. Misc hand tools, cutters, ie -$25

The painting materials themselves cost approximately $250-300.

1. 1 qt of SOM base coat -$35
2. 1 pt of Platnuim base coat-$20
3. 1/2 pint of black base coat-$13
4. Two pints of hardner-$25
5. Two qts of medium/slow reducer/clear finish-$50
6. 1 qt lacquer thinner-$7
7. 1 qt of minerial sprits/cleaning-$6
8. A half dozen rolls of varying size automotive quailty tapes and stripping material-$75
9. Misc covering materials, painters paper, leak proof plastic, ie. $50
10. Sanding screens and paper $25

........as I noted above, I already owned the neccesary equipment and tools, ie. I'll have $250 in the project and 20 hours of my time. So as I see it, I'm saving about $2250-$3250.....or at minimun $100 per hour.

I began the project yesterday and worked on it 12 hours and will finish it today in about 8 hours. Hope the info helps in your decision.....Dave aka Casper
That isn't bad at all. I have a vacation in November where I'd be out for about 14 days or more. With nowhere to go, that might be a perfect time for something like this. I'll have to look over Craigslist, e-bay and whatnot for the parts.

Thanks!
