Can I use a drag radial?

I need to get a new set of rear tires to start this year and I can't keep from noticing how many very fast cars are running a drag radial. I've been on the 28x14.50x16 Hoosier quick time pro but have been contemplating going to this:
http://www.mandhtires.com/M-H-Drag-R...6#.UO6iB1y9LCQ.
Or possible a MT. They make a 27.2" and a 27.7" in a 16.

I dont know if I'd gain, loose, or stay with the same results. Just looking for some outside opinions.

Thanks!

This is my tuner's car, Lideo of Alternative Performance here in MI. He's running on 20 inch 315 MT DR's. I know it is a different car and set up, but after seeing the 60'ft times and 1/4 mile times on drag radials I think for most people they are more than enough.

His best run was 10.32 @ 132 mph with 1.49 60ft! on a DR. Very impressive to say the least.

On the stock suspension I was cutting mid 1.4's and running 9.8's at 140+.Can I better that with dr's? I'm thinking with a properly tuned drag suspension and a slick I could do better.

Jaime - Have you considered just going with a slick with a stiffer sidewall? With the power you are making, I would tend to lean towards a slick over a DR unless you need a DR for a certain event. If you do decide to try a DR, I would suggest MT for consistency and wear.

Getting the suspension dialed in will certainly help as well. A lot of adjustments can be made on these cars when you start going aftermarket. I know Huffer and Matt at FSP formerly ECS spent a lot of time on their set-ups. While I am no where close to the power you guys are making, I worked with BMR and a local professional alignment shop on mine. It still needs a few tweeks, but overall I am happy with it.

I think the only slick available in a 28" tall, 16" is what I use. Ted will want to stay with this tire. I see Farks cutting 1.30 60's and going 160 on a drag radial. Swapping tires for an experiment in kind of a pain. A full suspension should really help so I was thinking I could get away with a dr but I don't know for sure.

You just need to buy a set of back-up rims and keep two sets mounted.

I went that route. I always just stayed with the slicks.

I did not realize what kind of numbers you were running at the track.

Farks runs slicks and skinnies now. They only went 9.xx on radials I believe.

Hmmm. Ill have to check with George or Lou and see what's up.

Is it because the cars are 4200 lbs that a slick may work better. Seems like the cars the fly in the 275x class weigh 1k lbs less.

Jamie, I'm certainly not qualified to give you any advice on this.....

but, for what it's worth, here's another 16" drag radial option for ya.....

Wasn't their a member here with a convertible that is racing a Corvette that run's in the 6's or 7's with DR ????
I think he said his IRS suspension worked best with a stiffer sidewall?

If you do decide to go this way Jamie, you may need some upgraded suspension mods like drag coils to make the DR hook though, equals more $$$$$$$$.
But,it's only $$$$$, you might as well spend it . lol.....
