Back in my import days my buddy owned a tuner shop and we dealt with VIS and IMO the stuff they sell is junk, its cheap but junk. There was a shop up here called fiber images and the same hood was almost double the price but it was 5 times better. The VIS are cheap and the hoods never had the inner stiffner like oem or fiber images and they were flimsy and the outer resin wash would begin fading and peeling in no time if out in the sun alot. This was about 6-7 years ago and they sourced all their stuff from china. I work with carbon fiber on a daily basis however its for strength and purpose and not just for looks. Also if you see "colored" carbon fiber, its just dyed fiberglass or kevlar, true carbon is black and only black. It's just a wrinkle in the carbon and it moved when layed into the tooling, you will probably be hard pressed to find one with no imperfections from VIS. Ask them if it has a carbon inner structure to strengthen the hood because I bet it doesn't and is flimsy as hell, ask for a pic from the bottom.

And I would look into seibon a bit pricy and way better quality control. Then again you are getting a higher quality carbon part.

I am kind of a perfectionist... I LOVE this hood but not if the quality isn't going to be there. I'm a little hesitant to order it now.

I will look into Seibon... I heard their fit and finish wasn't as good as VIS? Maybe I'm wrong here...

Crap! I need to order a hood by this weekend!

I'm starting to rethink this whole idea... Maybe an aftermarket hood isn't for me. I do like z force hood by mpd1 but it would take over a month and a half to get, paint and install and I really want to enjoy a new mod soon and the hood caught my attention.

Maybe I'll think about the acs TL1 insert. Other than the rockers, I wanted to stay away from biting styling cues from the ZL1. Damnit.

I don't know about that. I love carbon fiber. Just not wobbly carbon fiber.

My CF hood does not have any weaves that I've noticed, but it's not VIS.

Plenty of people do it without an issue, but my personal experience is that I've never once been satisfied with the fitment on a third-party exterior part - hoods and spoilers, primarily. I finally gave up fighting spoilers for this car and just got the GM dovetail which was perfect. I think I'm just going to leave the hood alone.

YMMV, hope whatever you get works out!

Real carbon fiber is imperfect.

Nope, trucarbon. If you look at their site they mostly do mustangs
Washed the car today and if I look around hard enough I see some slight defects on the rear driver side of the hood, but nobody would notice it without looking hard for it. I actually pointed it out to a friend and he couldn't see it.

Honestly, I think your car would look better without the CF just because it's matte everywhere but I wouldn't really be able to tell without an actual comparison.

I hear ya. I'm not saying it should be perfect... I just didn't know if it was normal.

I was going to wrap the hood in the same stealth film to give it a dry carbon look to match my car. I thought it would be a nice contrast.

After hearing about fit issues and weave issues though, I'm rethinking the whole thing. I may go with the Acs insert or, if I can wait, the z force hood (I haven't read one bad thing about it).

yeah after reading this i found a couple more spots that would bug me if I kept looking at it, especially at the beginning of the cowl rise. but without paying attention its unnoticeable.
