Help! gray tar like substance
I am new to the forum as I have just purchased a used 2010 rally yellow 2lt. I finally got a chance to wash it completely the other day and I noticed I have a hard gray tar like substance on my passenger rocker panel. I have tried bug and tar remover with no success. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is it like a hardend silicone type gunk? Ive had something similar to that and the only way to get it off was to get it wet and gentle pry it off. The stuff that i had on my truck was thick and i was able to pick it off it is def something the tires picked up off the road.

Yes, it is exactly like harden silicone. I will have to try to pry it off I just didn't want to damage the paint in any way. Thanks a bunch I hope it works.

The safest thing to try first is WD-40. Yup it will remove most gunk from paint and will not harm the clear coat. Try applying it with a terry cloth (face cloth) and I bet it comes right off. Then wax the area.

Clay is probably only a realistic solution if its speckles of 'tar' if its larger blobs he'll have to remove the bulk of it another way, then hit it with clay to get whatevers left.
Have you tried isopropyl alcohol? Soak a towel with some and hold it over the problem area for a little bit. Likely won't remove it, but it should soften it up enough to make it easier to remove. |
