He was probably referring to the difference between the 4.6 and the 5.0:

302 - 281 = 21....in which case he was at least very close.

The livernois car dynoed just about the same numbers when it had under 500 miles on it. At 1500 miles it really came alive and made 391rwhp bone stock.
Just as any high performance motor, or just about any motor in general...most all see a horsepower increase after break in.

I have seen LS3 cars dyno 39xrwhp before stock as well. Huggerorange...a member on here bought his car used with around 3k miles on it. I think he dynoed 392 RWHP. The car is now making 42x rwhp with long tubes and has not even been tuned yet. They definitely get stronger with more miles.

The camaro used in the comparison on the dyno charts had 250miles on it as well. It was a fair comparison.

What are the numbers when you run the Camaro SS with the LS3 and the 6 speed manual???
Their have been plenty of comparisons between the M6 cars.

Some have shown the camaro to be faster and some have shown the mustang to be faster.

The top spot belongs to the mustang in the non-biased/brand affiliated reviews. The 11 GT pulled a 12.7 in motor trend. The best the camaro has pulled in similar reviews has been 12.9. Motor trend ran a 12.9 in the camaro when running against the GT500. Hot Rod also ran a 12.9 with the camaro. Though it seems 13.0 @ 110-111 is the most common time mags are getting from the camaro.

The GT has been all over the place (even with the 3.73 gear and tire). But it looks to be just as fast as the camaro at the very least. (to the 1/4 mile mark, beyond that both tests to 120 and another to 130 that I have seen, show the camaro to have an advantage)

im just failing to understand why such emphasis is placed on what the magazines run?

go to the drag strip...thats where your real world numbers will come from. what you see with your own two eyes.

It's beginning to be pretty obvious that the engines are going to get about the same amount of peak power to the wheels. The LS3 has a broader powerband, which means it will likely have a better overall average HP in each gear. The Mustang makes its power at a higher, which means it can run more gearing (multiplying the torque).

I would suggest that if there is any real advantage, it would come down to that old enemy of all of us - weight.

He asked a question in regards to this. I simply gave him the best answer I could.

If we are talking private owners the story stays the same. Both cars have hit a best of 12.5 so far.

As far as the L99 thing goes. I suppose it doesnt matter. Its just down 30hp from the ls3 and is 50 lbs heavier. The quickest stock camaro time is a full .3 tenths faster with the LS3 than the next closest L99. The GT doesnt seem to have this problem to say the least. When comparing the two cars one would be wise to use the LS3 if they want to keep up.

And for what its worth, plenty of owners have had problems with them running poorly from the factory.

FYI...and if I won't get crucified for posting this....one of the shops went 11.98 @ 117 mph today with an A6 GT. 18" DRs on the stock wheels, LTs, CAI, a few suspension pieces (Lowering Springs and an adjustable panhard bar) and tune. Full weight. Air temp was 93F when the run was made. Believe it was at Maple Grove, but not sure.

Also, a bone stock A6 GT went 12.57 yesterday in California.

i understand, and i wasnt trying to single just you out ultrazls1.

i was just making a general statement...ive never seen so much emphasis put on what motor trend or car&driver ran...most forums ive been on usually dismissed those times. but here it seems theyre word is law.

Nah, good info Bob. To compare my L99 w/ just Longtubes, CAI and a tune, stock tires, stock suspension full weight went 12.22@113. You can definetly see the hp diff in the mph, but the L99 auto`s do seem to ET well w/ the mods I have despite being down on hp and having more weight.
Nothing the Whipple I have on order won`t fix though.. It does kinda remind me of the 80`s though when the 5.0`s were outrunning the heavier Fbod`s even w/ the 5.7`s... So when are the Pegged pants, big hair and mullets coming back....?

ROFLOL....with the exception of the pants/hair/mullets....I was actually thinking the same thing. But you're description is probably more accurate.
