Thumbs up Camaro SS Rental car story

Hey all,

I just found out you can rent a Camaro SS from Avis. I read a story in this online magazine called Auto Eclectic. They rented an SS in Indianapolis, IN. The story was a good read and so was the rest of the mag.

They had two Moslers one with an LS6 and one with a LS7. Think of a mid engine Corvette on a 800+lb diet.

Check out the issue Here

I heard they are testing the Supercharged Hurst Camaro next month.

Good luck snagging one. I had to fight tooth and nail to get my hands on a 1LT...

They used to have a ton of them last year when they had exclusive rights on them, but AVIS returns/sells/auctions their cars once they cross 30k miles which in most cases happens right about the 1 year mark.

Hence now, they don't have most of them anymore in their inventory and are not getting that many new ones since the "wow" and cool factor has died down.

Last year a 1LT/2LT in Phoenix was going for $150/day while a Mustang V6 was going for $59/day. Camaro was then considered the hot sports car, now it has just become another sports coupe.

I am sure the new 5.0 Stangs will go for a premium.

Never ever buy a rental car. They are driven hard and put up wet.

The majority of the used camaro's I've been looking at have been rental cars, I'd say about 85% of the used ones i looked into were rentals.

In January I rented a 2SS from an AVIS in Phoenix for around 170 per day. I put 491 miles on the car in 24 hrs. After 6 weeks of research and lurking here on camaro5.com, I was driving home in a brand new 1SS in early March.

I also rented a 1LT & a V6 mustang for kicks, but after driving that 2SS first, I was hooked!

Did you guys check out the article? I would do the same thing and run it hard. That is what rentals are for right?

I heard from the writer by the end of the trip the car wouldn't even do a burnout. It would just push the front tires locked up. Poor Camaro
