It is, with a heavy heart, that .....

..... I had to part with my Camaro the other day. The good news is it went to the good home of a long-time friend. The bad news is he lives 1/2 mile from me, so I'll see it all the time.

A couple of months ago, I was blind-sided and laid off by my company after 5+ years of faithful service. Apparently, the most recent victim of these trying economic times, I find myself out of work for the first time since the 7th grade (30 years ago). And, since things like kid's school tuition and food take precedence, something had to go.

You know all those stupid sayings like "I never thought it could happen to me"? Well, let's just say I don't find them that stupid anymore. I gave up a thriving business a few years ago to take (what I thought was) a step up and join the corporate world. Hindsight .... 20-20 .... yeah, maybe .... I guess I won't really start to worry until I have to start selling my Hot Rods.

I am not too ashamed to say that it is pretty scary that someone like myself, with the experience and accomplishments in my area of the automotive industry, may have to take steps backwards just to get my foot in the door at some companies. But, not too much does make sense to me right now ....

Well ... it was fun while it lasted. The crystal ball seems a little cloudy right now, but maybe there's a convertible in my future ... once my feet are firmly planted somewhere once again.

Camaro5 family .... see ya around ....

Once a Camaro owner, always a Camaro owner.

I'm sorry to hear about your job. The times are scary, but even in financial downs, I find it helps to focus on making the small things that you enjoy, all-the-better.

Good luck with finding a job, and though you might not get something you're really happy with right away, some money is better than no money.

Must be Scary

Sorry to hear of your plight.Have seen this more and more the last few years.Happened to our son.Took him two years to get back where he was at when his employer shut down. But with prayer and faith things will work out if not right away in the near future. A car is just a car. Many thing more important.Good decision, and good luck in the future.

Sorry to hear, especially about no work. I am in the midst of pursuing a new career and I am pretty scared about finding work. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear that man.

My job is hiring for the pipefitter/welder position. If you're interested, check out chevron.com, click on careers, and navigate the location to California and El Segundo.

As long as you guys don't mind seeing a '71 El Camino or a '57 Nomad, then I'll show!

Thanks for all the kind words, guys .... REALLY. I couldn't agree more ... you have to have faith, and it always seems as if everything happens for a reason.

As my handle would suggest, I have been in the auto parts business since I was 13 ... the used auto parts business (auto wrecking). And, since I have been building Chevy's since I was 15 .... well, you get the connection. So I have a VERY strong auto parts background .... especially when it comes to classics and muscle cars.

I owned my own yard for 10 years here in Long Beach / Carson, and specialized in parts for 60's, 70's and 80's cars. I used to tell people that my career supported my hobby! I sold classic car parts to people from all over the globe ...

Oh well, those were the days ....
